What should the Suns do with Gortat?

Gortat has 1 year left on his contract. IMO, the Suns need to cash in on him soon. They should trade asap for the best offer. Maybe good young players with potential or maybe draft picks in next year's draft. I don't think he even wants to resign with the Suns next summer and even if he does, he's going to cost to get overpaid for a 30+ year old center. We don't need an overpaid aging center on this rebuilding team.

I really hope the Suns don't do what they did with Amare and Nash and watch Gortat leave as FA while getting peanuts in compensation.

The Suns should have traded Gortat last summer when his value was incredibly high cause of playing with Nash but they failed to take advantage of the opportunity but they can't afford to hold back again.

If Houston gets Dwight, the Suns should look to get Asik from the Rockets to replace Gortat imo. If Dragic isn't too old for a rebuilding team, then neither is Asik since their the same age.

Thoughts on Gortat?

Definitely not for Asik. The guy will be vastly overpaid at $15m I think in the 3rd season of his contract. Hopefully we'll be on the upswing by that time and use that money on more worthy free agents. I'm all for trading Gortat though.

I think we do need to cash in on him while he's still easily tradedable (cheap deal). His value is probably about as low as it'll get at the moment due to his season-ending injury so I'm hoping we can build his value up a little bit before the trade deadline and hopefully bring back some smart assets (young'ins or picks).

trade him for a late lotto and find a much younger big man or need player.

Gortat looks like he could be a whinger on a losing team, as he has proven this season... could affect the youth and be detrimental to the development process.

I dont blame him... he needs to be on a team who can value his strengths and need him.

Sweeten the deal with those guys to pull it off.

The more I think about it, the more it makes sense to me that we trade him, but my opinion can be swayed. I just think he's going to be due more money than the Suns (as a rebuilding team) can give him, especially @ 30 years old. That's not over the hill, but in terms of a window it's pushing it. I don't think we can be competitive in that time, or we'll probably have a smaller championship window with Gortat at that age.

I cant believe what i am hearing.Gortat deserves to stay with the suns as long as he wants after all the good years he has given us.Kidding of course i would try and trade him to the sixers for there pick.

Gortat is a depreciating asset that happens to play a position where there are a lot of prospects this year.

Gortat also gave up on the team last year.

Its RealGM's new thing of forcing a suspended poster to wear the proverbial "Scarlet Letter". The mark of Shame.

Actually its a RealGM glitch that they havent fixed yet. It started happening once they updated the site a couple moths back with all the new features. If you get suspended, there is a very strong possibility that the title sticks until they find a fix for it. :lol:

Trade him for a pick. Pretty straight forward, he's happy to leave and we're happy to say goodbye.

I have nothing against Gortat as a basketballer or a person, in fact I like him a lot. He'd be a great addition to a contending team. Just not one that's doing a rebuild from top to bottom.

He's a good player, actually our best player relative to position, but he and Scola needa get traded this season since they have more value to good teams than they do to us. Gotta explore trade options for Dragic and Dudley too, either this season or next season.

Gortat's injury won't affect his trade value. He was almost able to return for the last games of the season, and is playing for his national team right now already IIRC.

Several teams could use a big like him : OKC, Portland, Heat, Dallas, Atlanta, 76's if Bynum leaves, Washington if they decide to go in win-now mode now that Wall is healthy, T-Wolves if Pekovic walks, etc...

I think the biggest mistake we can make this off season would be not trading Gortat.

The Suns are a franchise that prefers to watch its quality players leave via FA rather than trading them to get some, quality assets unlike the Nuggets, Jazz, Thunder, Hornets etc.

Hopefully McDonough is smarter than that.

Steve Nash. I know we got some excellent #30 first round picks but if you check my post, I made sure to state "quality assets" and imo #30 is hardly a quality asset..unless of course we strike gold with the player.

I agree with you that no way Tucker should be traded with Gortat unless we're getting a lot more than #10 & Freeland.

Remember, Portland isn't the only team that wants him. I'm sure OKC would love a trade in which we take on Perkins horrible contract in return give them a quality center in Gortat. The Suns in turn get the TOR pick + Lamb and everyone wins.

#30 should have been #12, if not for the underhanded manipulation from the dark side.

And don't forget, we also got an unprotected 2015.... which really is the more valuable pick.

We'll see what happens in a couple weeks with theGORTAT, but I'd just as soon keep him and find some other way to get a big kid to play behind him. One of Gobert, Adams, Dieng could very well be around at 18-19+. However, they must first pass the brain trust eye test. Our opinions lack the complete picture.

Plus we got two second rounders in the Nash deal, one of which helped us get rid of Warrick and grab what could be a decent mid first from Minny in what seems to be a decent 2014 draft.

I'm on the fence with Gortat. As for our history of letting good players walk, I don't see that.

We were lucky we let Stat walk. Now if we want to complain about what we did, or did not do withe the large TPE from Stat, I can understand that.
