Chad Ford just released his most recent mock. Now has Oladipo going 2nd, Mclemore going 5th and KCP going 9th to us. Has us taking Whitey with the 26th. Muhammad dropping to 16th, McCollum to 10th, Giannis to 29th.

I think it is pretty likely that based on Flip watching him work out very recently that we could have at least made him a promise at 26. Now if he is there is the next question. I like him. I think he has a body frame that will fill out pretty good and would be a valuable 6'7 wing. I worry a bit about his shot transferring, kind of like Shved's struggles this year. Worth the risk at 26 though. No way I take him at 9 or move up from 26 for him tho.

at #9 I'm fine with any of Shabazz, KCP, or Zeller (or any of the two guard or center prospects that slip)

at #26 I want Ledo, Karasev, Crabbe, or Withey

I think this has been one of the more interesting mock draft years in a long time. So many risers and fallers, so much change every time a site updates their mock.

It certainly wouldn't shock me to see Flip role the dice with Giannis or Ledo at 26. With KG and Ebi having been drafted while he was here, he is certainly no stranger to rolling the dice.

Check out Saric whipping passes all over the floor. Interesting talent. Reminds me of Galinari.

If we go big/small, I want Len (unlikely), Zeller, or Adams at 9 and Ledo or Karasev at 26.
If we go small/big, I want KCP or an Oladipo trade-up at 9 and Withey or Muscala at 26.

Shved was always billed as a streaky shooter though.

Karasev's game reminds me of Stojakovic.

There seems to be a deeper talent pool of "smalls" at 26 than bigs. If we don't trade up for Oladipo or McLemore, I'm really liking the idea of getting a vet SG (Afflalo, Mayo, etc.) to start, taking a big (Len, Zeller, Adams) at 9, and another wing (Saric, Karasev, Giannis, Ledo, Hardaway) at 26.

Mike (Detroit)
Any chance Dario Saric goes #6 to the Pelicans? Or would they only draft him if they trade back?

Chad Ford (1:15 PM)
Yes and yes. There are a handful of teams that believe Saric is a top five talent in the draft. I believe the Pelicans are one of them. So, yes, if the guys they have ranked ahead of him are all gone, I do think they'd take him at 6. However, they could probably trade down to a pick like 9 or 10, pick up an asset and still get him. The scouts that REALLY know Europe say that there's not a huge difference between Saric and Otto Porter.

Hearing strongly that Sergey Karasev doesn't get past the Cavs pick at 19 -- that's why I put him there yesterday. Chris Grant and company were out in force in Vegas. If the Cavs go big with their first pick, Karasev makes a lot of sense.

Fernboy ((Arlington, VA))
Do you see Danny Ainge taking Ricky Ledo at 16? If he played this year, he would have been a lottery pick. He has the talent and the veteran core would be great for him. He could learn from PP and then take over for him, and even back up Rondo.
Chad Ford (1:23 PM)

I wouldn't rule it out. Several teams believe he is THE sleeper in this draft. A lethal scorer who would've been a lock for the lottery had he been eligible to play this year. The talent is clearly there. The issue is that he has a number of things in this off-the-court life that have teams running scared right now. But Ainge is the type that would roll the dice. The Celtics need talent and I could see Ledo doing what Lance Stephenson has done this year if he can get his life on track.

I like that Flip is doing his due diligence and getting a bunch of guys in here. I like that they have Zeller in that first group. Should be a good test for him going against those other bigs.

dream offseason.

trade 1
MN out: ridnour, steamer
MN IN: perkins, White, 12

Dal out: VC, Cunningham
Dal in: steamer

OKC out: Perk
OKC in: ridnour, VC

Hou out: White
Hou in: Cunningham

Won't go into this trade to much, I think its fair for all teams assuming steamer is not guaranteed.

trade 2
mn out: dwill, reduce protections on phx pick to top 3
mn in: dudley, 30

I saw this trade posted in another thread as dwill for dudley + 30 in another thread. I'm not sure who proposed it, but I like it a lot if combined with other moves. I tossed in lessening protections to sweeten the trade.

trade 3 mn - bos
mn in: c lee
mn out: JJ

Been tossed around all year. Im indifferent about the swap.

#7, #12, #26, #30

Which the wolves could then use to climb the draft ladder in a series of trades which seem fair.

trade 4 MN - SAC
mn in: #7
mn out: #9 + #30

trade 5 MN - PHX
mn in: #5
mn out: #7 + #26

trade 6 MN - ORL
mn in: #2
mn out: #5 + #12

The Bruce needs a better dream...

Perkins is done, and has a horrible contract... 18.5 million over the next two years.
Your deal is nice for OKC, to bad it's bad for us. White? he's nuts, waste of cash, 1.7m, and a roster spot.

So the first trade just screws us over and makes our competition better.
The second trade is fair enough and the third trade is nice for Boston.

That Lee deal is not good, 16+ million over 3 years for a backup;
coupled with the 13 million owed to Dudley, add in the expected 3 million or so for Chase, and we blow around $13 million a year on 3 backup wings...

I think we can do better, that first deal blows hardcore :)

I don't think I've ever heard a GM say that he'll pick based on need rather than BPA.

Flip: "Victor is probably the safest player in the draft, but he might have the biggest upside as well."
"He could very easily be taken at 2."
"You can't deplete your roster in order to get him."

"Derrick is 21. He'd be a top 5 guy this yr. No rookie training camp. Last year, he got too big. If he loses weight, which hes doing, develop his post game. I think he can be a formidable guy and fit in Ricks system."
"What is his position? I think he can guard SFs at a smaller weight"
