Initial sentiment was in favour of reviving the Huskies nickname, but team management realized it would be nearly impossible to design a logo that did not substantially resemble that of the Minnesota Timberwolves.[2] As a result, a nationwide contest was held to help name the team and develop their colours and logo. Over 2,000 entries were narrowed down to ten prospects: Beavers, Bobcats, Dragons, Grizzlies, Hogs, Raptors, Scorpions, T-Rex, Tarantulas, and Terriers.[1] The final selection—Toronto Raptors—was unveiled on Canadian national television on 15 May 1994:[1] the choice was influenced by the popularity of the 1993 filmJurassic Park. The name Raptors is a common informal name for the velociraptor, a swift medium-sized dromaeosaurid theropod dinosaur.

Toronto Huskies and Toronto Raptors are the only legitimate options. That said, here are some other ideas...

Toronto Towers
Would mostly be a cityscape logo but would also apply to the tall players themselves. TT would look good in a hat.

Toronto Trains
(Union station is a hub) and trains hasn't been done and could work with kids. also, the steam whistle brewery is just down the street. TT would look good on a hat.

Toronto Red Coats
(The Americans play up their military. We have British ties, defended Canada and burned their White House ). We could keep the jerseys red obviously as well.

Toronto Arrows
(Could take it either toward the Avro Arrow or Aboriginal arrows)

Toronto Founders or Toronto Pioneers
(Naismith invented the game and we played in the first NBA game)

Toronto Castles
(Casa Loma is the only castle in North America)

I agree. Huskies is cool for a retro night and stuff. But if they did change the name to Huskies the team would lose that originality and just blend in.

If you say the "Raptors" everyone know's what team your talking about, that's a good trait to have in a team nickname (and yes I've already been informed that a double A baseball team is called the raptors as well ... lol).

If you change the name to Huskies, we just become one of many teams with that name or close to that look.

I like team names like Lakers, Spurs, Heat, Suns, Thunder. All original, only one team with that name. Raptors is ours and we should keep it.

Honestly, I think the Toronto Castles could be really awesome the more I think about it. Imagine a blue crest with a white stone castle turret on it and the words "Toronto Castles" on it.

Has history due to Casa Loma being the only castle in North America (and if I'm not mistaken the original owner was one of the pioneers of hydro electricity in the world)

Kids love castles. A black hat with a blue crest and a White Castle turret on it would look awesome. Same thing for centre court. It would also allow us to switch to blue and white.

You'd turn every home game into a combination of Medieval Times and Game of Thrones Geek Night. The Raptor becomes "The Court Jester", and that just doesn't lend itself to a cheerleader-eating inflatable costume.

stick with the name make a legacy make us proud...(only names that come close in my list are The Toronto Pride and The Toronto Dons because they have some sort of association with the city of Toronto but the name Raptors win hands down.)

Rebranding doesn't necessarily mean changing names. Perhaps changing the player representing the team. Not surprised they want to look for top tier player to brand the Raptors.

Meanwhile, I thought Gay fits into the rebranding, and having Jonas adds another key element for blue collar market. If they find a mediocre/good talent Chinese, maybe that can fulfil everything.
