I think someone in the Nets/Clippers/Denver/Memphis cluster needs to reach for a Byron Scott or some other wild card in order for us to honestly have a shot at these guys. Established coaches would much rather take the reins of a playoff team than a rebuilding project, because they have a better sense of what they're getting.
We're on the second tier along with the Sixers -- and they'd be higher if it wasn't for all the uncertainty around Bynum and their plan moving forward. We also have massive holes in our roster at SG and SF heading into a weak draft and an unpredictable free agent market, positions that are pivotal to a few of these coaches offensive schemes. Even with our cap space and building blocks, that's a hard situation for an established coach to willingly walk into.
That said, I'm still hoping we pull out something unexpected before this search comes to a close.

Re: Nuggets not bringing back Karl
Karl got alot out of a team that didn't have much. I look at his success with PG's (primarily) Lawson and Payton that he'd be good help when we draft our PG of the future and help Knight become a good back-up PG. I think it's a fit but than again this is Joe D so logical goes out the window.

Thats all I'm saying. The Pistons need to just wait and see what happens, because just like the draft, its very possible one or two of these teams overthink it and takes a gamble on some oddball candidate, leaving one of the good candidates for us. And quite frankly, even if that doesn't happen, its not like Cheeks or McMillan wouldn't still be available as backup plans.
But this idea of rushing into hiring the backup plan before even knowing how its going to play out is really stupid management on the Pistons part.
