Rank drafts best players 5-7 yrs from now

Post#1 » by blackham9258 » Fri Jun 7, 2013 1:49 am

#1 My gut tells me it is going to be Alex Len. He is this years Andre Drummond. He has size, agility, athleticism, and touch inside and out that we have not seen in a long time in the draft.

If he slips to #7 and the Jazz could flop 14, 21 for him ... they should do it.

2. Mclemore
3. Bennett
4. MCW (He could bust too but if he hits he can hit big, his shot is all thats missing but it is fixable)
5. Cody Zeller (Could become a Lamarcus Aldridge type)
6. Dennis Schroeder (Has the physical side and the instinct/ intangibles to excel- Rondo Comparisons are real and he is further along at this age than Rondo was)
7. Steven Adams (Has the body, build and upside to really hit)
8. Victor Oladipo (Came out of nowhere this year to hit big... does that continue to an actual offensive game or is he just a better version of Tony Allen)
9. Nerlens Noel
10. Trey Burke (Jameer Nelson 2?)
11. Otto Porter (Upside is there.. so is Wesley Johnson)
12. Gorgui Dieng
13. Kentavious Caldwell Pope
14.Then some guy we wouldn't even consider: Like a Tony Snell, Reggie Bullock, Mohammed etc.

I base a lot of my reasoning on body type, athleticism, and upside. I don't see a ton of upside to guys like Porter and Burke who remind us of less athletic versions of other players but... it is exactly that athleticism that makes great players great... and others more like Wes Johnson and Jameer Nelson. I also don't like guys that are trying to do something at a size or length that isn't normal for the NBA: Larkin, Noel, Olynyk. Lastly I don't like guys without hands, or touch and good rhythm to their shots.

For example I love watching Mason Plumlee in the draft express videos but once you get past the positives and see that awful looking shot motion you lose me. Noel loses me on the fragility side of things... seems like a taller version of Hakeem Warrik who has bust written all over him with zero offense.

On the flip side MCW has amazing athleticism (40" vert), length, passing and vision... his shot misses but his motion is very good... so I believe it can be fixed.

Guys Excluded:

McCollum: Not athletic enough in my book... lateral or vertical.

My gut tells me there isn't going to be a single all star outta this draft 5-7 years from now. It's going to be like when mike miller won the ROY. Pretty much because someone had to. And we will see the best players from this draft as competent starters or first 2 off the bench types. That'll be the TOP of this draft.

2000 was a historically bad draft and even it had two one-time All-Stars: Kenyon Martin and Jamaal Magloire.

both of whom were pretty questionable all stars the years they made it. Magloire was the benefactor of the death of true nba centers, and Martin was a benefactor of those down years when the nets made the finals with Jason Kidd and garbage.

1) Cody Zeller
2) Shroeder
3) Oladipo
4) McLemore
5) Larkin
6) Burke
7) MCW
8) Plumlee

I dont like Noel, Bennett or Adams at all (total busts). Larkin will surprise many and become an allstar, but Zeller will be a superstar!!
Play with the Pass, Play with a Purpose, and Play with Pace along with Obvious Unselfishness....Coach Snyder says the sky is purple than Jazz players say nice purple sky! LONG LIVE THE MAD SCIENTIST!!!!

Good point.

Predicting a draft to be that bad is just as dumb as predicting next year's draft to be as good as '84. Its incredibly unlikely and there are always players that surprise.

I think its probably a lot more like 2006. No one at the top who becomes a perennially great player, but some big time busts, and some really good players that are regularly in or around the All Star discussion (Rondo, Aldridge, Gay, Millsap) with a chance that a truly dominant player could emerge from down the line. I like it quite a bit where we're picking. There will be a future All-Star or near All-Star caliber player on the board when we pick. Its just a matter of figuring out who that guy is.

1) McLemore - the most skilled in this draft
2) Adams - with another 20lb on an already formidable frame Adams has the makings of a being a tough inside defender, is a much better mid range shooter than thought a huge motor he has the biggest upside of the Centres.
3) Zeller - As a 4 rather than as a 5. Skilled player with speed and agility to make space for himself.
4) MCW - If he gets the shooting action right, a long point guard who has a great passing game has huge potential
5) Noel - Will struggle to get to 240lb but his elevation and defensive instincts are the basis of a very good NBA player
6) Len - So long as the foot issues do not become chronic he has the game to.
7) Olidipo

Those who could surprise - McCollum Mitchel and Franklin

I think that this year's draft has plenty of players that will make a difference on their team. These are the ones I like (in a very loose order):

McCollum
Porter
Gobert
Noel
McLemore
Schroeder
Oladipo
Len
Wolters
Hardaway
Larkin
Crabbe
Withey
Plumlee

Depending on where you draft, any of these guys could be a good bet. I particularly like McCollum, Wolters, Crabbe, Larkin, Porter and Gobert.

Very interesting list. You're that high on Gobert?

With the caveat being that I've only seen highlight videos, yes. He seems to be coordinated, have good timing on defense and he is mobile. All of that from a 7-2 player point to him (at worst, in my opinion) being a Joel Pryzbilla type impact player. If he has or develops an offensive skill set (and it won't take much) he'd be a great pick almost anywhere in this draft.
