L Drew wants to take 4 Hawks to Milwaukee

Post#1 » by Jamaaliver » Fri Jun 7, 2013 3:41 am

Larry Drew wants to court Josh Smith, Devin harris, Kyle Korver and Zaza Pachulia.
I really like what MIL is trying to do. I think they might make some noise in the future as they are reportedly letting Monta and Jennings go.

If they can get a nice guard with their 15th pick and develop John Henson, they can take our spot as a consistent 4th/5th/6th seed in the playoffs every year.

For a team with one winning season in the last decade, that's not too shabby.

http://journaltimes.com/sports/basketball/gery-woelfel-drew-makes-very-positive-impression/article_fcae5016-ccd3-11e2-adf1-001a4bcf887a.html

Besides saying complimentary things about Henson, Sanders and another frontcourt player, Ersan Ilyasova, Drew even had nice things to say about the Bucks’ dysfunctional backcourt, which may be on the brink of being dismantled.

Starting shooting guard Monte Ellis has an opt-out clause in his contract and has told associates he’s bolting Milwaukee. Ellis’ backup, J.J. Redick, is an unrestricted free agent and appears destined for another city, also.

Brandon Jennings, the Bucks’ starting point guard, is a restricted free agent. And while the Bucks can match any offer by another team for Jennings, they may not want to retain him, especially after Jennings said he “wasn’t sure” he wanted to remain with the team after its last playoff game against Miami
.

But Drew may be asked to do more than coach the Bucks: He may be enlisted as their No. 1 sales person during free agency in July.

That’s because several of Drew’s former players with the Hawks would be welcome additions to the Bucks. Four Hawks — Josh Smith, Devin Harris, Kyle Korver and Zaza Pachulia — are all unrestricted free agents.

Smith, an exceptionally talented but inconsistent performer, is the gem of the group and will generate considerable interest once free agency begins July 1.

The other three Hawks are quality players and would, at the very least, fit into the Bucks’ rotation.

Drew, by all accounts, has a great rapport with each of them. When I spoke to Korver late in the regular season, he raved about playing for Drew. When I spoke to Harris over the telephone about a week ago, he did the same.

It was clear these guys enjoyed playing for the 55-year-old Drew, who is about as humble as any pro head coach you’ll come across.

When I asked Drew about the possibility of him “lobbying” for any of the Hawks, Drew said he, Hammond and Kohl will meet perhaps as soon as today and discuss player personnel matters in depth and in a “systematic” way. Drew said he won’t be bashful about attempting to transform some of those Hawks into Bucks.

Good for MIL, but the Hawks fate doesnt rest in those 4 players.

Josh Smith is likely gone anyway. Id love to keep Korver, but Devin Harris and ZaZa im not sad to see them leave. Harris is a great player and ive always loved his heart and grit, but hes seen his best years and he has injury issues.

ZaZa id like to see us get a younger alternative, unless he comes back for cheap.

^I'll miss Zaza and Devin.

I really hope Zaza sticks around. He makes us a tough team. Singlehandedly.

I think we could have given Indy an even tougher fight had Zaza been available to go against Hibbert, Hansbrough, etc.

I prefer veteran PGs to run offenses in crunch time. Devin is more or less my ideal PG.

Harris is old, and hes past his prime. Way way past his prime. Id rather start developing someone else than resign him.

Zaza im only interested in as a backup and for cheap. zaza is almost 30, partially torn achilles , when big men start having foot problems, i get a little scared.

I just think its time to move forward.

If we got Paul, I wouldn't mind this

You're starting to scare me, PK.

30 isn't old in basketball.

He's still younger than Tony Parker, Jason Kidd and Derek Fisher who each led their teams to the NBA Finals in recent years past the age of 30.

Zaza's real age is probably 38, it has been reported before that he had his birth certificate altered a while ago. I hope L. Drew convinces Smith to play there. Imagine Monta, Jennings, and Smith taking long 2s and 3s..... lol They should also try to get Blatche and Tyrus Thomas, this way they'd have the worst shot selection team in NBA history.

Sounds like Drew is against retaining Monta (and he will be exercising his option to leave).

He hasn't spoken too much of Jennings, either. I suspect MIL may make an offer to Teague. Might be JT0's only guarantee at a starting PG spot.

Who knows what Bud and Ferry are thinking. Or how Teague fits into the system Bud wants to implement. But Teague has known Drew his entire NBA career. It's a convincing sales pitch.

Devin Harris isnt in the same planet as Jason Kidd or Tony Parker :P

Our starting PG right now is Teague. Who is our 2 guard? I dont want it being Devin Harris. Just me. I like DH, i just think the report on him is he is debilitating pretty quickly. Ankle/toe and knee issues for a guard isnt good at the age of 30.

Id rather start John Jenkins and develop him over DH. If we are going to really move forward, lets do it. Stop being the landing destination of stars that could have been or never will be.

Yeah, maybe just ask the Bucks to select Dennis Schroeder and then the Hawks can draft Dario Saric, and Giannis Adetokunbo. then have all three guys stay overseas for a year or two.

Larry Drew is wise for trying but it's not like those players are in our future plans anyway. I'm not worried at all about any of them leaving because I believe the writing is already on the wall. Rebuild mode, unless, big unless, we sign one of the star free agents that are available.

if the bucks overpay I can definitely can see jbrick going there. I know he enjoys playing for LD cause of the freedom he gives him and I dont think dallas or houston will spend big bucks on him.

Looks like the Buck made an offer to Ellis of 3/36. (Sorry couldn't link.) I guess the question is will Ellis go for that deal? If so, it sets the table for whether they would go after certain former Hawks.

Indeed. If Monta comes back, I doubt they pursue Teague. Devin maybe.

I just wondered, why isn't this tampering? They're talking about signing players who, like Dwight Howard and Chris Paul, are going to be free agents but are our, until July.

^Monta is still under contract. Drew was very vague with his on the record quotes about ex players. The writer was the one who offered specific names of Hawks players.

It's an effective way to circumvent the system.
