I take Otto Porter if it's a choice between him and Burke. Just my opinion though.

I'd try to explore a trade at that point (if Mac/Dipo are off the board). I think Detroit and Sacramento would be interested in Burke.

All the "advanced stats & metrics" posted in page 92 is driving me crazy. Some of you are making this so much more complex than it really is.

Dude stop acting as if you know exactly what the Suns are gonna do. You do this same crap on every damn Subs board that your part of.

Us fans don't know s**t. Hell, the Suns may end up drafting a guy who hasn't even been talked about much so far. Last year, Kendall Marshall wasn't mentioned a lot as a possibility for us and yet he was our pick.

I have been wrong before...plenty of times...as have you. Stop acting as if you know something that rest of the people here don't know. I'm sick and tired of it and its annoying.

It is definitely smart to rely on your eyes, preconceived notions of players and therefore biases, instead of math. Yes, this is definitely the right thing to do.

Its the nature of the game now. There is still a place for "eye ball" tests and interviews, but statistical measures and analytics are the main components used when evaluating guys now.

I've got a good feeling that McDonut is going to do alright with this draft, the guy seems like someone who is going to analyze every single aspect of every player we have interest in.

3 weeks to go from today, can't come soon enough!

Its just one of those things, he posted a few names like Olajuwon and Barkley and Stockton and says , see, look my formula said these guys wold be great and they were!

I want to see the bad. Players like Beasley and Thabeet or Biyombo and see how well they did. He mentioned that Rebounds and Blocks and Steals translate to the NBA (those players end up better) and while shooting and efficiency dont, as a player can get better offensively. Thabeet and Biyombo were GREAT rebounders and Blockers. Win shares were also a big part of his formula, and as i recall Thabeet was the biggest factor on that 2009 Huskies team.

According to http://www.sports-reference.com/cbb/sch ... /2009.html, Thabeet had an amazing 9.4 Win Share! Thats .1 less than Otto Porter has!!

Beasley had a 10.7 WS.
Derrick Rose had a 6.6 WS.
Love had a 11.3 WS, while Westbrook had a 5.3 WS.
Wades WS was 6.5

My point is that using Win Shares for your main basis of a "super advanced formula" is fail. Win Shares are not reliable.

Sources say that Saric, who plays for the Croatian team Cibona, understands his lofty draft position but wants to stay in Europe one more year to hone his skills. He's enjoying his time in Croatia and feels he's not quite ready for the NBA.

If the Mavericks keep their pick, expect them to be all over this.

They might not get a chance, the article states that Saric is actually favoring pulling out of the draft and reclassifying to next years or the year after.

Wow that would be a mistake for him. Next year's draft will likely be very strong, he has a better chance of making much more $$ this year.

Thats how I see it playing out.... then hoping Len slides to pick him. That big Terp is on our short list and I would not be surprised to have him 3rd behind Dipo and McL. He's a legit C, and if not for a bum foot, would likely be in the top 3 pick discussion. In some circles, he is now.

Porter and Burke just seem like consolation prizes. A 'Thanks for playing, pick up your steak knives on the way out'.

Right now, it is hard to imagine Dipo dropping to 5, He seems to be the draft darling.

Quick note on those stats: using past player performances to preview future player performances is so so so tricky, mainly because basketball is not an individual sport. Sure, if the sample size is just so big to factor all different potential team shapes into it, than this becomes less important, but that is not the case.

And then there is also the selection bias Kerrsed mentioned. We'd have to take a look at the success rate of the model (u could use the model using data from 10 years ago to forecast the next 10 years and then see how well it translated, for example).

Not saying the stats are invalid, but they must be looked upon with skepticism, and definitely paired up with other tools to try to prove/disprove some of the recomendations that it brings up.

As of now, I believe there is a bigger chance of McLemore dropping to the 5th slot. Magic will pick Oladipo in the end, I have that feeling.

We can hope MJ and Hornets aren`t trading down their pick to Wolves (picking Bennett or Len makes more sense for them than taking a shooting guard) and McL would be a Sun.

Studies show there is a 90% chance that you can use statistical data to support your theories 100% of the time. :eyebrows:

That stuff means jack to me! The only stats that matter are Shooting %'s......then I let my eyes be the guide. I have coached too much, played too much, lift too much, ran too much and competed too much to listen to some hap hazard geek tell me who is a good player or not.

Noel is good (sans injury)
Oladipo is good
Burke is good....without a doubt!

They are ballers with skill, determination, desire, no quit, fight, fire, mean streaks, inner strength, passion, focus, and competitive ass athletes who would die on the court before letting you know they'd quit....... they won't fail period!

Now calculate, process, assess, interpret, analyze, and synthesis that!
