I was trying to cite a random fact I had once heard but I think it's that it's the only castle located within the city limits of a large North American city. It's not like its on a parcel of land on the outskirts of the city.

I do think Tim L will be good for the RAPS...but he pisses me off coming in here, and wanting to change the name with no idea what it means to all of us that have been die hard fans for like 18 years.

I love the name Raptors/Raps, it has meaning/sentimentality to me. Every team's name is arguably stupid in one way or another. This should NOT change.

Agreed 100%. I've been a fan since 96. The Raptors name logo / brand has sentimental meaning to me too and I own tons of Raptors merchandise. Pisses me off that such a high number of you voted in favor of a change. I'm guessing those people are miserable/ soul-less.

Theres 5 change of name threads on the first page alone. 3 tanking threads. With so many more to come on these same subjects.

Its a board, where theres discussion of Justin Biebers favorite team.

Dont worry, this place doesnt represent much. Im with you though, I like the Raps brand. I like saying Raps period.

Not sure about all this vitriol about a name change. There are many, MANY of us who have hated the name since the team's inception. Raptors is a silly, short-sighted, borderline-embarrassing team name that doesn't represent the city, region, or province. It was a desperate, transparent, mid-90's cash grab. Uninspired and disposable. If you like it, fine. But don't slam people who have never liked it or connected with it.

It's because of what a proposed name change represents. We wouldn't be talkin about this if we were winning. This just means we are at rock bottom and many in this region have turned on this team so much that amateurish crap like this is even discussed.

Respect your opinions, and certainly understand if you like the Raptors' moniker, but don't see how changing a name that can easily be seen as a "joke," constitutes as being a "joke".

Because it signifies desperation. Especially when the name isn't offensive (I.e naming your team the Bullets in the murder capital) It means you're perceived as a ****, unpopular basketball team who's only hope at popularity/hype into change their name. Everyone is gonna have their opinion on how cool the name "raptors" sounds, thats not the point though. We haven't even had this name 2 decades yet, were still a young franchise (3rd youngest) and it's not all bad times we've had. Could you imagine if every team who sucks for a 5 year stretches here and there changes their name every time. It's been a crazy fun journey with the RAPTORS and its so petty to be talking about name changes for no good reason. IMO
