Re: Options for the $5.15 mil MLE?
Great post shrink, but I will add that MLE's can become paid overnight by a team who missed out on a star. Atlanta has the money for two max contracts, if they miss out on Howard and Paul all of the sudden they are looking elsewhere to spend that money and creating a domino effect where a guy like OJ Mayo ends up getting the 8-9 million that another team thought they were going to spend on Jeff Teague or Brandon Jennings.

Re: Options for the $5.15 mil MLE?
Serge Ibaka spoke openly about the Thunder’s outlook for the offseason to a spanish media outlet. ThunderMost notably in the interview, Ibaka seemed to dismiss the possibility of Kevin Martin’s return to the team. “There will be a lot of changes, like the departure of Kevin Martin,” said Ibaka. “We have room for improvement and we have to add something to improve our play.” The quote comes off as a surprise. Martin has been adamant about wanting to stay in Oklahoma City and the team should have enough money to retain the sixth man on a short term deal. Most importantly, the team has a genuine need for a scorer like Martin and he meshed well with his teammates in the locker room.
Good news for us!

Morrow - Great shooter.
Belinelli - Can shoot and defend(within a good system) and is white.
Nick Young - Can score and shoot with size.
Gary Neal
Delfino
Brandon Rush
*puke* Wolves don't need any more point guards or chuckers.
I like all the other suggestions though, might even get Morrow for just a little cheaper.

So much needs to be based on what happens with AK. We are in the driver seat with bud and pek, but ak is a variable. Our mle might be spent on finding his replacement rather than our sg.
A small case scenario is if we do trade up we might get a functional rotation player in the deal, that would need to be factored as well.

Remember, Bud is unrestricted so we'll be looking for a TON of shooting if he decides to leave. Hopefully he likes it here with Rick n Ricky.

assuming we get Bud back, I think we may be in a position to sign someone who was originally looking for more than MLE but got stuck with it once the teams with cap space spend it all. while we have holes in the roster, we aren't taking on water and going down because of them.

Good post. And I think we'd be a very attractive destination for many of these SG's that don't miss out on the cap space contracts. Not only are we a team on the rise, but Rubio will get him easier looks, and Love will get him possessions. There is no competiton with another SG, so he'd get all the minutes he wanted, and since we have no go-to scorer, he'd be given a free hand to take a lot of shots.

Re: Options for the $5.15 mil MLE?
You guys want a dead eye shooter at SG or SF.
I think Anthony Morrow might be your guy. He got lost in the shuffle the last 2-3 years, but the guy was an elite shooter and even a decent scorer back in his Golden State days. He seems perfect at about $2M/yr, with a team option in year two.
I think Al Aminu could bring something interesting as a springy, athletic SF/PF, that doesn't need to score to contribute. Might be an ideal second unit guy.
A couple other possibilities... Dorell Wright and Austin Daye. Both are long SF's that are excellent 3pt shooters, with a good bit of athleticism to run the floor with Ricky.

another guy we could add in fa is boris diaw. might be hard to convince him to leave a championship winning team, yet he could be looking for long term security considering he's 31. he has a player option for 2013/14 worth 4.7 million.

^ doubt he would opt out of that. He's not very good.
Morrow / Wright could be interesting on the cheap. Wright is a solid defender and athlete as well.
Aminu would be alright if we moved Derrick. He showed he can rebound pretty well at least.

But Cunningham proved to be a win now piece as a back up PF and AK can play some PF minutes, so I'd mind getting either of those 2.

Re: Options for the $5.15 mil MLE?
I doubt he'd cost the full MLE, but I could see Martell as an option. I think he could be a Danny Green-lite for us.

How does Kevin Martin affect the minutes that Kirilenko or Cunningham get at PF?

I know you'll guess from the 1st attempt whom I confused Kevin Martin with. Sloppy reading.
