Draft Night trade with Charlotte idea

Post#1 » by Eoghan » Sun Jun 9, 2013 2:01 am

Detroit in: #4 pick (Oladipo/McLemore)
Detroit out: #8 pick

Charlotte in: #8 pick (some white big) + protection removed from Detroit pick owed to Charlotte.
Charlotte out: #4 pick

Doable?

Sounds good bro...I would do this to pick up McLemore, I think Dipo will fall out of the top 7...

@BrotherDave: You guys don't want McLemore?!.

The Bobcats must think we have an awful future if they take that deal.

I'll do it only for Mac, I don't think getting Dipo makes us a playoff team.

I honestly have no idea what Charlotte is planning on doing with their pick and I don't think anybody else does either. We haven't worked out anybody and I have a feeling we'll trade the pick somehow. I'm just trying to explore all avenues and I have a feeling Cho would like to maximize every asset in that 2014 draft b/c the pressure to end the rebuild is on.

We better make the playoffs if we do this!

An awful SHORT term future. And in that we might....

That said I'd do this.

Is that kind of trade actually feasible though? I'm not sure if removing the protection is a tangible asset that can be used in a deal.

Yes, technically they give us back our pick and then we send one unprotected. But its just called removing protection.

To get oladipo or mclemore is worth the risk.

I would only do it if we kept top 3 protection in 14 and removed protection in 15. Granted I don't see anyone at 4 that is that much more interesting than who we could pick at 8.

plus

I have not much in the way of faith in Dumars not screwing the pooch with this cap space so there is that lol.

The question is why?

There is nobody at #4 that would be a top 15 pick in 2014.

Is this a joke? With Cheeks as our head coach you guys really want to remove the protection of our pick? This is a LAC repeat, we would be giving up Kyrie Irving to the LoLCats.

We might as well change our name to Detroit Bobcats if we do this trade because this franchise would be dead.

This is just another reminder of how idiotic the Gordon deal was. We gave up a one to move the cap space up from 2013 to 2014, and now we're talking about placeholders and one year salaries to get us to the 2014 free agency.
Comments to rationalize bad contracts -
1) It's less than the MLE
2) He can be traded later
3) It's only __% of the cap
4) The cap is going up
5) It's only __ years
6) He's a good mentor/locker room guy

I don't want Joe anywhere near the LOLcats. They fleeced him last time!

Can say that about quite a few teams dating back to giving away Amir and Delfino for nothing....

I dunno. We're probably a lottery team in a great draft in 2014. Not sure I'd let them push us back a year just to move up four spots in a mediocre draft now.
