Sam Young appreciation thread

Post#1 » by Grang33r » Wed May 29, 2013 4:51 am

The guy gets a lot of hate by our fanbase, essp of late, and we know he barely has any type of offensive game and is used as a defensive substitute for Paul George, but i thought he was huge tonight. Six rebounds, and some of them i thought were big time rebounds, two steals, and six points. In the previous three games, Young only scored 3 points. He's not a game changer and wasn't one tonight either, but he helped us be very successful tonight.

He was also a +7 off the bench, only guys with better +'s were Lance (+12) and Charlmers (+11).

His contribution was big for us tonight.

I'll admit, he has a lot of "what are you doing?!?!?!?!?!?!" moments in his game, but he's such a hard worker and comes up with great plays. I'd be more than glad to have him backnext year.

Personally, I never hated on Young. He knows his role and he does it well most of the time. His effort is there. He is not the most talented guy on the court but he tries.

Love his defense on LeBron. It makes us be able to rest George and not lose a whole lot.

Never hated Young either. I admire his style of play even when he was still in Memphis. He fits the group the front office was trying to build for years now and I would be happy if we can re-sign him on a decent contract.

May not be the most talented guy on the court, but he's got the drive to overwork everyone else.

I liked this guy since he was at Pitt and was glad to see him join us this fall. He's an excellent defensive situational substitute and I'd like to see him stay with the team moving forward. Nice to see him enjoy some success after his mid season injury and release. Love to see him get a ring this year too.

His hustle grows on you. He might be worthy of a roster spot next season, especially if Granger is traded.

People don't seem to see the impact he has on games. Without his defense, George would get no rest. He should be on the roster next season. He's far more helpful that Gerald Green.

Agreed there is a lot to hate.

But he fills a gritty role on our team quite well. He is doing it with timely rebounds and put backs, the occasional deep ball, and fearless defense. Basically as long as he doesn't handle the ball he is fine.

He is worth a 2-year minimum deal, but the problem is Green. I hope like hell Pritch can undo his snafu this offseason.

If not, it isn't the end of the world. 7 million over 2 more seasons after this isn't a handcuff. Certainly not great if he continues to ride the bench, but it's not like he has $8million a year or anything. Could be worse.

At least every Nets fan seems to want him back. We have got that going for us.

I know his salary is not crippling in the sense of its magnitude, but it is the specific amount we'd need to absorb TRob for nothing. His little worthless deal will also prevent us from retaining Hansbrough this offseason. As it stands his deal is pesky.

Mahimi is close to joining him at times, but he does just enough to warrant his salary.

True, didn't think of that.

I like Sam Young. I do hope they bring him back for 2 reasons.

1. He will come cheap. He was released by the Pacers late in the season and re-signed shortly after. There is no demand for Sam Young.

2. I don't think bad teams look for marginal, one-dimensional guys like Sam Young. If he doesn't sign with the Pacers, another elite team will sign him. Miami? Chicago? New York? He's no game changer, don't get me wrong, but i'd rather him him on my team then on one of those.

He's role player who understands his role. He's athletic, if he continues develop his 3pt shot and ballhandling can be used at SG.

So with Granger coming back next year, the acquisition of 2 rookies, and any free agents we sign, is there any room for Sam Young? Let alone any playing time?

He has NO ball handling ability.
