Kobe keeps dropping the retirement word, he needs to sign off.
The plan you are promoting could work, don't get me wrong. I just expect them to short-cut and keep pushing the edges of the CBA and mortgage the future to extend the competitive run...
I agree. I think they're going to try and get one more for Kobe before he retires. Unless Howard leaves; then I don't know what they'll do. Probably start crying. Nevertheless, they could possibly go the other way and just try to clear salary. I agree, the Lakers still have to make a pitch to Howard to remain a Laker. I'm not sure taking a huge longshot to get Lebron (or any Heat player) for less than max is going to be too convincing as a sales pitch.
I think you're right that Boozer would fit better than Gasol in LAL. Meanwhile, I think Gasol would fit better in Chicago. The Bulls just have to make up a little value for the Lakers to make it an even trade. Here ya go:
http://basketball.realgm.com/tradecheck ... de/6277533Chi out: Boozer, Hamilton, Teague, Bulls 2013 1st #20
Chi in: Gasol
Why for Bulls? They get a better fit in Gasol and an upgrade over Boozer. It puts the Bulls solidly into the tax, but I think Riensdorf will do it because this team has a real chance of winning.
Rose/Hinrich
Butler/Hinrich
Deng/Butler
Noah/Gibson
Gasol/Noah
LAL out: Gasol, Duhon
LAL in: Boozer, Ariza, Teague
Why for Lakers? They extend their window by breaking Pau into two starters and a decent PG prospect behind Blake and the AARP guy.
Nash/Kobe/Teague
Kobe/Meeks
Ariza/Metta
Boozer/Hill
Howard/?
Yes, the Lakers are still thin, but I can't fix all their problems.
Wash out: Ariza
Wash in: Rip (buy out for 1 mil),Duhon (buy out for 1.5 mil) #20 pick
Why for Wiz? They're drafting Porter. This sheds some money and gives them another 1st.
That's about the best I can do for the Lakers in a Gasol to Chicago trade. I think it's more than fair value for Gasol and about the best return they're likely to get in terms of talent to win now.
