Interesting that Shaw never interviewed... Guess Jackson didn't have much influence (or he's more interested in one of the other openings).

If he's learned from spending the last four years with OKC, especially regarding how to develop young players into a team which blossoms together, then this could be a pretty good hire. As someone already wrote previously on these boards, we're still a lottery team at this point; therefore, we simply weren't gonna attract someone like Jerry Sloan, Lionel Hollins or George Karl. In any case, he's now our guy, so all we can do is hope for the best.

Phil would have definitely helped if we had listened to his advice.

1) Get MJ and Pippen
or
2) Get Kobe and Shaq.

With the supposed interest from the other teams with openings (and lets be honest, pretty much all of them are better situations) I would put money on that being the case.

I believe that he has shown that he can deal with NBA egos--something our past several coaches have not done so well. He seems to be able to get players to play defense. He's not taking on the best roster (as yet not completely determined). We'll see. I have always liked his level-headed approach as a player. And he has a championship.

Nothing we can do now. We can only hope that he's no Curry, Q, or Frank.

Aside from hiring Karl, I would have felt a need to do a "wait and see" with any coach hired, even Hollins. This team has defined holes. But with FA and #8, this team better get this sh*t right. Playoffs have to happen this year.

Here's to hoping Cheeks brings this squad back to relevancy in this new era.

Now that Cheeks has been confirmed as the next Pistons head coach, I for one am going to jump on his bandwagon and give the man a fair shake. I'm a fan and he deserves my support unless he gives me reason not to support him. I wish him all the luck in the world. He's certainly a stand up guy and was a fantastic PG. I REALLY want him to succeed here. GOOO CHEEKS!!!
