I don't want Bynum back. On the other hand, the guy is an outstanding force on offense in 4th quarters although he's mostly a one-on-one player who throws the lob pass.

I actually could see us resigning him (for a reasonable contract) in order to trade him later in the year to a contender who could use super-firepower off the bench. To me, he's way more valuable to a strong team than he is on our young developing team.

We are running low on combo guards and stretch 4s.

Judging from Joe's history we already took care of the retread coach, now we'll give Monta Ellis and Andray Blatche $75 mil over 4 years.

I see Iggy being signed.

Shabazz being drafted.

Some shooters to come off the bench.

Think we will preserve a lot of our cap space for a true game changer.

With just Shabazz/Iggy/Shooting depth off the bench combined with Monroe & Drummond's natural improvement we will be a lot better next year.

I'm warming up to idea of targeting these guys:

Iggy -- New starting SF after we draft a SG
Korver -- SG/SF sniper to bring off the bench
Earl Clark -- Stretch 4 to backup Moose
Kaman -- Drummond's backup
Maynor -- cheap backup pass-first PG

Knight / Maynor / *#37 pick*
*#8 pick* / Korver / English
Iggy / Middleton / Singler
Monroe / Clark / Jerebko
Drummond / Kaman / Kravtsov

A few questions to answer:

1) Do we amnesty Charlie Villanueva?
I think the Pistons are on the fence about this one, but will eventually decide not to. I think with the premium on bigs and the fact that we are already paying him, I think that is why they will decide to keep him (keep in mind I think Bynum is the only free agent that has a shot of staying).

2) Do we nuke the last year of Stuckey's non-guaranteed deal?
I think they'll have to. addition by subtraction.

3) Will we attempt to use our cap space to broker trades? If so, who do you think we'll be able to get?
Yes. Think less rudy gay type move, think more along the lines of how Cleveland got 3 players and a draft pick for Jon Leuer.

4) Who do you think the Pistons will TARGET as free agents? Who will we be linked to?
Just about every SG. I think Andre Iguodala should be the priority. I think the team will also go after getting a big or a SF depending on what the draft nets. If its bigs i'm thinking more "value" bigs then bigger name free agents.

5) And, of course, who will we actually sign, and what kind of money will they get from us?
????? I never know anymore, so i'm not going to guess.

6) How satisfied will you be with this projected outcome?
B-

In a perfect world, Stuckey would be involved in a sign and trade that nets Detroits Andre Iguodala. Dallas would look to unload their 13th pick and a player for cap space. Houston would trade the Pistons Thomas Robinson for a future pick ( i like that some fans on the trade board think hes worth a 1st or the Pistons pick owed to Charlotte). Draft guesses, no idea.

I'll predict that we spend just over the MLE for Free Agents... it will be mostly unbalanced trades.

Snakebites wrote:I figured it would be fun to have a thread about what people expect to happen with free agency this year. Given the state of our salary cap I'd say the only certainty is that our roster will look quite different next year.

Bear in mind this is NOT a thread to discuss what you would think we SHOULD do, nor is it a thread to post thoughts on what your ideal free agent shopping spree would look like.

A few questions to answer:

1) Do we amnesty Charlie Villanueva?

I say yes

2) Do we nuke the last year of Stuckey's non-guaranteed deal?

Yes

3) Will we attempt to use our cap space to broker trades? If so, who do you think we'll be able to get?

I want Afflalo and Thomas Robinson

4) Who do you think the Pistons will TARGET as free agents? Who will we be linked to?

Brandon Jennings

5) And, of course, who will we actually sign, and what kind of money will they get from us?

Brandon Jennings for ~$50m/4 years

6) How satisfied will you be with this projected outcome?

I'd be thrilled with:

Jennings/Knight
Afflalo/Middleton
Shabazz/Singler
Monroe/Robinson
Drummond

Brownie points to anyone who correctly predicts any of these things.
