vege offseason plan #4874

Post#1 » by vege » Wed Jun 12, 2013 12:21 am

I think this is an appropriate time for a new offseason plan, now that we have a great veteran head coach who can manage players ego

Waive English

Draft Shabazz Muhammad at #8

Ask Dallas to draft Gorgui Dieng at #13

As soon as FA is open Amnesty CV.

Trade our 2 2nd round picks this season and a future 2nd for Shawn Marion and the #13. The asking price for the package is supposedly 3 2nds and a TPE.

Trade Rodney Stuckey for Trevor Ariza. They both sucks but they fit better on the other team.

Trade Kyle Singler and a TPE for Courtney Lee. Boston saves money. We add a 3D guy.

Trade a distant future protected 2nd and TPE for Jeremy Lin and Thomas Robinson. Lin would be pretty good on the pick and roll with Drummond and he would hopefully bring some attention to the franchise. Houston tries to land Chris Paul and Dwight Howard to go with Harden and Parsons.

Sign Reggie Williams 1 year 2.5 million

Done, Joe can't destroy our franchise again handing over big contracts for no defense lazy FAs.

Shawn Marion $10,714,315
Jeremy Lin $ 8,374,646
Trevor Ariza $ 7,727,280
Courtney Lee $ 5,225,000
Jonas Jerebko $ 4,500,000
Greg Monroe $ 4,086,454
Thomas Robinson $ 3,526,440
Brandon Knight $ 2,793,960
Reggie Williams $ 2,515,233
Andre Drummond $ 2,462,400
Shabazz Muhammad $ 2,136,100
Gorgui Dieng $ 1,599,300
Slava Kravtsov $ 1,500,000
Khris Middleton $ 788,872

$58,500,000

Andre Drummond / Gorgui Dieng / Slava Kravtsov
Greg Monroe / Thomas Robinson / Jonas Jerebko
Shawn Marion / Trevor Ariza / Khris Middleton
Courtney Lee / Shabazz Muhammad / Reggie Williams
Jeremy Lin / Brandon Knight

No Jennings this time

I'm not sure i like the Stuckey for Ariza trade or the Singler for Lee.
I know you're a Lee fan, but i like Singlers versatility and bballIQ.
Ariza isn't worth much when we'd already have Marion and Middleton. We could just bought out Stuckey if Joe really wants to get rid of him or try to get another late 1st rounder

I don't know enough about Dieng to comment, so sure why not.

I'm not sure Paul goes to the rockets so i think they'll hang onto Lin, but i'd happily take Robinson for virtually nothing.

All in all it's a solid plan.

Maybe we could trade Stuckey for Lee since Boston were interested in him before?? Then just hang onto Singler.

Everything sounds decent and reasonable, except I don't like Dieng. I especially like the Lin part though, he's a better PG than the rest of the draft and has shown immense leadership during his time with the Knicks and Rockets. Not to mention, he has one of the quickest 1st steps in the league and can run a fierce PnR. He made Jared Jeffries look like an all star and Bill "literally still in the league" Walker look like a starter with the Knicks.

In fact, I think if the Rockets were looking to move Lin to make room for CP3 and Howard, it'd be a no brainer to try and take him. Ultimately, they're probably not going to move Lin and stick with getting just Howard though. If they do land all 2 players, I think it'd cause too much problems since all 3 (including Harden) are pretty ball dominant.

I watched a lot of Rockets games, and the one of the primary reasons why Lin has not flourished under the team is because he's ball dominant. With Harden taking PG duties most of the time, he hasn't shown complete confidence in his shooting ability yet.

Lee is a 40% 3 point shooter and he is an excellent defender, one of the best perimeter defenders in the league. He just entered his prime so yeah I like Lee a lot and I think he would fit well with Drummond and Monroe.

Singler was absolutely horrible for us, other than a couple of weeks where he played great he was a disaster. I'd have no problem using him to acquire a more talented player and Courtney Lee is an insane upgrade over Singler.

Lee's problem is his long term salary but honestly I think he is worth that salary, Boston may not see that way since they have Avery Bradley who'll need an extension soon and Jason Terry on a similar contract.

Because of Terry I don't know if Boston would have interest in Stuckey, I think they should use the TPE from this trade and try to acquire Luke Ridnour.

It's not such a no brainer because of the money. While his contract counts as $8,374,646 against the cap for the next 2 years, he is owed 20 million and in the final year of his contract Gores would have to pay him 15 million, that's a LOT of money for Jeremy Lin. That's max contract money.

I'm liking this better but i think i might want more than Robinson to take Lin's deal off their hands. I think alot of my opinion on that would be based off who we draft. If we can draft a guy like Muhammed or Oladipo than i'm down to take Lin. If by default, we get Burke or McCollum, i would like to stay away from Lin with Knight already on staff. If we can get Muhammed or Oladipo i'm down. Subtract that terrible Ariza move and FA signings should be good but i'd go this way in the draft:

8 - Oladipo (Can see him sliding) and 13 Kelly Olynyk (would fit well at the four with Drummond and Monroe).
