Do you want to make a bet that Blair doesn't return to the Spurs after this offseason for a contract less than $3.5 million annually? Because I'm down & willing to put my money and/or reputation with a sig bet where my mouth is

Even if he does leave the Spurs there are 28 other nba teams. What makes you think that he has any interest in signing with Charlotte for cheap to be a reserve. The only reason that he would come here cheap is if no other team wanted him. And I imagine that is the case, because he can likely only be productive in minor minutes. We don't need that. Mully, McBob, Biz and even MKG can get minor minutes at the four. We need someone to come in and split the major minutes with McBob.

Two words...playing time

...and don't give me no "Mully, McBob, & Biz" because Blair is easily better than all of those guys

I can't see him being any better than Jeff Adrien, who has a team option for a little over 900k. Would you rather spend $4M on Blair or less than a million on Adrien?

Yet he can't beat out Boris Diaw, Tiago Splitter, and the Red Mamba for playing time.

Well, Blair did start 62 out of 66 games last season while "Boris Diaw, Tiago Splitter, and the Red Mamba" came off the bench, and averaged 16 points on 53% shooting & 9 rebounds per 36

So, what you saying?

And then they both eclipsed in the rotation. Suppose those knees had anything to do with it?

I would suppose that Tim Duncan's lasting health & the fact that he was defending more physical centers instead of power forwards had more to do with it. The Spurs had a better winning percentage last season with Blair in the starting lineup ('11-12: 50-16; .758%) than they did this season with Splitter in the starting lineup ('12-13: 58-24; .707%)

Maybe so, but he is still a 6'7 (to be generougs) four with bad knees. I would rather draft the 6'7 four with the gimpy shoulder. At least he would still be on a rookie contract.

We already have a 6'7 four without bad knees or shoulders.

I'm not suggesting that a star player would land here in the first place, but it's starting to really bother me that a disgusting amount of cap space is timed with a total absence of star quality free agents. I don't see free agency being of much use to this organization in the few coming years. The cap space could and likely will be used to retain our own players. And since centers take the longest to develop, that would rule out draft. So no free agent centers and no drafts of centers and I think the perfect storm is there to acquire a center via trade. I feel that's the most likely route. I think the Hornbobs recent reported interest in Cousins and last year's reported offer rumored to be hard to refuse are telling hints.

You guys realize we'd have to renounce our rights to all our free agents AND amnesty Thomas to be able to do anything big in free agency right?

I don't see why it would be a problem to renounce everyone but Henderson. Diop and Reggie are gone, Mullens stinks, and the Bobcats don't benefit from having McBob as an early bird, since he's ideally worth 2-3 mil less than 175% of last year's salary.

If that happens, and you amnesty Thomas, the Bobcats would have a little over $40M in committed salary with Henderson and the draft pick's caphold. That would be around $18M under the projected salary cap.

Amnestying Thomas seems like a no-brainer at this point.

I have a feeling that we're not going to amnesty Tyrus until next year.

We might as well Amnesty Tyrus now, because their is no point in amnestying him as an expiring contract, not that we would probably get anything of worth for him...

Not using the Amnesty provision on a completely overpaid and worthless player, is really cheap of our front office. Im not saying use it just to use, but its either on Tyrus or nobody and he deserves it. He can not even be a role player...

The reason is called patience. There's no reason to amnesty Tyrus this offseason if we're planning on tanking for another season there's not a ideal big market free agent for us to spend money on. Being patient, we might be able to throw Tyrus in on a trade package to help even out the money or we could just amnesty him next year when we're going for the big gusto.

I'd prefer to just keep him and use his expiring season after next as bait for a team desperate to stay out of the luxury tax.

For as many people who are saying we should hoard our cap space... I have news for you.

Next years free agent pool is GAWD awful...

http://espn.go.com/nba/story/_/id/85896 ... -2013-2014

Amnestying Tyrus and spending money while the pickings are not as slim makes sense.

I would be down for investing in a 6th man type guard this offseason, especially if we draft Bennett or Len.

A bench with Sessions, Gordon, and another guard who can fill it up will hopefully give us a bench that can keep us in the game. Then next year when Sessions and Gordon expire, we won't have as much pressure to resign them.

Corey Brewer wouldnt be bad if he came cheap, can play both wings while still playing D and rebounding.

Why can't Gordon just turn down his player option. That would be the best thing ever....

Really?

Unrestricteds include: Lebron, D Wade, Bosh, Carmelo Anthony, Rudy Gay, Spencer Hawes, JRich, Shannon Brown, ZBo, Kobe, Pau, Danny Grainger, Paul Peirce, and Deng.

Restricteds include: Greg Monroe, Lance Stephenson, Paul George, Ed Davis, Larry Sanders, Demarcus Cousins, Derrick Favors, Gordon Haywood, and John Wall.

I really wish you guys would post in green or use a smiley to indicate when your kidding. That free agent class looks fantastic to me.
