I guess Jason Kidd's BBIQ is 100 x greater than Shaw's afterall.

Stole the job right under his dumb arse.

Fact... Not opinion.

Raptor fan ... good move imo.

Jason Kidd reaches deal to become Nets coach

A formal announcement is expected soon and a news conference to introduce Kidd in Brooklyn will likely happen before the end of the week. Kidd's contract is expected to be guaranteed for three seasons with a possible fourth-year team option, league sources said.

Well, obviously I'm a huge Kidd fan. Here's hoping he can translate that to coaching. His first time in Dallas didn't end well, but the 2nd tint ended with him winning a ring. Here's hoping lightning does strike twice and he delivers us a championship...this time as a Head Coach.

Jkidd knew his body couldnt make it threw a full season plus playoffs anymore.Of course Kidd still wants to get paid and be an important piece to an NBA team. What better way than to coach.lol To top it off he gets to stay the NY area which he loves.

Really not sure how I feel about this. One on hand, I'm extremely excited to see Kidd back with the Nets and as our Head Coach. I feel he can be a great coach because he knows what it takes to win in this league and knows the in and outs of playing in the NBA at the highest level. He can reach the players and will have a great relationship with our star player, which is pretty important, IMO.

Shaw was my first candidate, but I guess Kidd would be number 2 on my list. Guys like Hollins, JVG, Skiles, Dunleavy, Messina, Blatt, etc just didn't do it for me. I'd rather see a fresh start with a new coach rather then guys who have failed elsewhere and are cast offs.

However, this is a very risky move. Hiring a coach with literally zero experience is odd, but if anybody can do it, it's Kidd. He's been around the best for 19 years, and has a wealth of knowledge, and I hope he can lead us to some success.

With that said, I'm happy with the hiring because it's not some generic coach thats been around the block. What do you see those other coaches doing that Kidd can't?

The one issue I have is how he can handle himself off the court. We all know the issues he's had in the past, but hopefully that is all left behind.

Really disappointed in the hire but now that it's done I'll be 100% behind him.

Here's hoping he succeeds and takes us onto something special.

Lets go Nets!!

Screw it. I'll be 100% fair and give him an open mind until he shows me wrong. Go Coach Kidd!

This is kind of embarrassing for Shaw though. He's not a even #1 contender for the Clippers job anymore with the rumblings of Doc might wanting out if Angie rebuilds, Scott seems to be now a major candidate, etc.

Rogers agreed to terms with the Suns. Was never much of a fan anyway.

I know Frank is a good assistant, but meh to him as well.

Would love Messina.

More embarrassing will be if Doc gets his way and we could have had him.

Frank is a hard worker, but I'll be real scared if (when) Kidd names him lead assistant. If Kidd fails, he'll be the one calling the shots.

Not really. Nets asked to speak with Rivers and was denied by Ainge because Rivers legitimately probably thought they weren't going to rebuild. Angie with his idiot self has Rivers limbo and Doc is clearly realizing he better get out of it now while the Clippers, Grizzlies and Nuggets jobs are still wide open which they won't be for long.

Very unsure of how to react to this one.

On one hand, I hate that they took a chance on a first year coach without any experience with a team that has a 2-3 year window. My preference from the beginning was Sloan, Phil Jackson, or Larry Brown because those guys would have brought legitimate postseason experience along with tangible track records elevating both their teams and individual players. For this team to have a shot in hell Deron Williams needs to make the jump from borderline allstar to first team NBA. Maybe Jason Kidd is the best guy to do that, but I would have preferred the guy who won a championship with Chauncey Billups. It would have been ideal to overpay Kidd to be on any one of their staffs’ for a couple of years and then hand him the team, but I guess the world doesn’t work that way.

On the pro side Kidd he has the mentality to be a great coach. He’s a lot more like Bird than Magic, and he will be better than both when it comes to relating to the players. Superstar players often lose their teams because they can’t translate their former talents into their players. A huge part of Kidd’s talent was his mental toughness and intensity and that’s something can be absorbed as team’s often take on the personality of their coach. If that’s the case there’s no chance this team plays with the lack of fire and ball movement that plagued Avery & PJ.

Also, when looking for hope in terms of what I hope to see these Nets do, the best case I can usually make is Mavericks. Win 45 to 55 games each year, make subtle moves to become a more well-rounded team, and hope that the stars align and your best player gets hot at the right time. I’d settle for 1 magical run out of this current squad, whether it’s upsetting Miami and getting to the finals or beating the Knicks in the postseason, or the obvious long shot going all the way.

Well what’s done is done. We’re fans and it’s more fun to look at the hopeful side than the other.

As I thought:

“The Nets believe that if Williams is engaged and playing his best, many of their problems are solved and the Nets are a far better team. With Kidd at the helm, they believe Williams would play at his optimum level”

This will work and backfire at the sametime.
