Grizz Interested in Luol Deng

Post#1 » by Thakk Attackk13 » Sun Jun 9, 2013 6:21 pm

Memphis Grizzles are interested in acquiring Luol Deng this offseason via trade according to Andre Johnson from Memphis Sports News. Bulls could receive Jerryd Bayless and clear up cap space for free agency.

kinda hybrid of Rudy Gay and Shane Battier (DUKE) for us. I'm not crazy about this move but it's not horrible. I'm afraid Deng's best days are behind him though. He did not play well in London last year and kinda flamed out this year for Chicago.

Having interest is pretty vague, especially when the report does not say how they could feasibly get it done?

J Bayless can not be traded unless he picks up his option which he is not expected to do, and even if by some minor miracle he did the salaries don't match up to where a trade would work.

You would have to trade not only ZBO but T. Prince in a much larger deal with multiple teams just to get Deng?

Unlikely!

I would not trade Deng if I'm Chicago.

It is thought that the play of Jimmy Butler in the playoffs and relatively low salary makes Deng expendable but Carlos Boozer is also a piece they may look to move because of his salary and defensive inemptitude (along with Taj Gibson's salary and play).

Reinsdorf does not believe in paying the luxury tax so something will have to be done.

Yeah I can't see Chicago getting rid of Deng if they don't have to.

I would love him at Memphis as he'd legitimately spread the floor and would give our offense a much needed boost..

I don't really see how it happens without another team involved. We'd have to take on another salary for the TPE, and then package that with some combination of Bayless, Prince, and Ed Davis.

I dig the move if all we give up is Bayless + Prince + TPE though.

I agree with you about Reinsdorf, which is why I think D. Rose's days as a Bull are numbered. He and Reggie know ownership is too cheap to put together and maintain a championship roster. They've already gutted their bench. Move both Deng and Boozer and they might as well be in rebuild mode.
