An interesting read about how teams got their names: http://www.nba.com/hawks/feature/behind_the_name.html

I'm in the latter camp. "Raptors" is a cartoonish name. Always has been. Always will be.

Older in what sense?

It seems to me that the younger posters (teens) are in favour of Huskies, while the older posters are in favour of the Raptors remaining - though I only extrapolate from the user's join date. (I suspect that my method of identifying posters may be more valid than yours which was derived from your own experience only.)

Unless older signifies 40 and above, in which case, shouldn't they have more things to worry about than how "****" the Raptors name is?

Interesting. I was speculating. I might be wrong. I was just curious as there is certainly a divide and I was wondering what the demographics of the divide might be.

And no... those over 40 can worry about the team name as much as anybody else can. They gotta watch this team too.

are you only saying this because of the first jerseys that the team had?

Because the word raptor has nothing to do with a cartoon otherthan those terrible jerseys

Word "raptor" is not cartoonish. Means Bird of Prey. They have some pretty cool raptor demonstrations each year at the CNE. I wouldn't be opposed to "Toronto Raptors" being in reference to a Bird of Prey. I like Huskies better, but a Bird-of-Prey Raptor would be cool.

Unfortunately, the "Toronto Raptors" is cartoonish and was chosen at the height of popularity of Jurassic Park.

Sick of seeing all of these floating around the middle of nowhere, here's the place to get them all in one shot.

If I miss one, just post the link in this thread and I'll edit it in. Mods, can you sticky?

If you haven't started your own thread, rather, just popped your submission in an already existing thread - post the image here!

I lol @ people who want a name change to transition into a winning culture. It will be even worse if we are calledd the huskies and suck, i rather be called the raptors. Timberwolves vs huskies sounds great for us.

While I commend the work being done by some talented posters, it doesn't change my opinion on the matter itself. I posted this very late in a different thread, but am re-stating my thoughts here.

With every ounce of my being, I f****n HATE the idea of changing the team's name.

HATE IT.

DO NOT DO IT.

It would be the most amateur, puerile move the team will have made yet - and would seriously have me questioning my loyalty to the franchise.

If an actual name change is being considered, Huskies seems the obvious choice in order to grasp at the extremely tenuous link to history, but choosing the name Huskies would be flat out awful and wrong.

DO NOT WANT a name associating with winter and snow and cold.

Re-brand / re-image fine, but keep the name. Please keep the red (do NOT want Blue).

If they win, Canada will adopt them as their team. No marketing ploy will ever do it, and will only serve to cheapen the brand and expose the new ownership pairing of Rogers+Bell to be completely wrong minded about what needs to be done.

+1000000000000000000

DO. NOT. WANT.

Huskies sounds like some amateur team name. Changing the logo's and jersey's is one thing, but the name? NO. Raptors is fine, Huskies sounds soft as ****!

Los Manos' submission has by far and wide been the best one but I would like to see the same thing done with the Raptors' brand not Husky.

Cannot agree more. I've posted on a different thread with this same thought. I hope the whole Huskies thing is just picking up speed in this forum, and this forum alone. We lose as the Raptors, and we win as the Raptors. No other team name would be the same.

Return to Toronto Raptors
