I get the whole modesty thing, but this is pro sports and business. I'd like to see results. Why do we have to be cordial about it?

Couldn't agree with you more. I hate the era of being friends with the competition that we are currently in. I miss the days of miller vs the knicks there was so much intensity in those days.

I think GM is the one position you need to be a bit friendly with other teams as the job revolves around being plugged in and communicating with other teams and reading their minds. Hard to make a trade for that piece you desperately need if he other team despises you.

But for a coach or player? Absolutely 100% guarantee.

In other news, apparently Bird has dropped out of the running and is either returning to Indy or taking another year off. I know his son had a serious legal issue at college this past year, so it's not out of the realm of possibility he could stay home another year.

Amick is reporting that the top 3 candidates are Wallace, Morway, and Scott Layden.

Layden is infamous for his work that sent the Knicks on their outrageously priced spiral downward in the early 2000's, but he's been with the Spurs for a while, so maybe he's learned a thing or two. Would think you'd have to.

You really don't want Morway. He was pushed out the door in Indy due to some negative office politics he was playing and some unethical and untrustworthy dealings he attempted with other teams as an AGM. Something along the lines of talking trade when he had no authority to do so and torpedoing done deals (apparently the undoing of the Rush/Mayo deal that was done at the deadline a couple years back was his sabotage). He also had some issues when he worked for the Padres and separately when he was an agent.

Layden?!?!? Ugh. Hopefully this is just to give the impression of due diligence. I'd much prefer a relative unknown with promise (like Schlenk) to a known **** up like Layden.

It says something when Chris Wallace is BY FAR the best pick of the litter--and that something is NOT good.

This GM search has been quite a bummer in relations to all other Kings news

One thing I know about Wallace is that he doesn't have a big ego. People without big egos tend to learn more from their mistakes, because they accept them as mistakes.

I'm hoping for a Wallace/Schlenk VP/GM team. I like Wallace's history in a small market and I like Schlenk's ability to recognize talent in the draft.
A note on Petrie. It's really too bad he had to go out like this. The guy did one of the best GM jobs in history when he built the teams of the early 2000's. His track record when the Maloof's had cash and stayed out of his ear is impeccable. From Webb, Divac, Christie, Brad Miller to Hedo, Wallace, KMart, Peja, etc.. As a long time Kings fan I will always respect Petrie.
