With every ounce of my being, I f****n HATE the idea of changing the team's name.
HATE IT.
DO NOT DO IT.
It would be the most amateur, puerile move the team will have made yet - and would seriously have me questioning my loyalty to the franchise.
If an actual name change is being considered, Huskies seems the obvious choice in order to grasp at the extremely tenuous link to history, but choosing the name Huskies would be flat out awful and wrong.
DO NOT WANT a name associating with winter and snow and cold.
Re-brand / re-image fine, but keep the name. Please keep the red (do NOT want Blue).
If they win, Canada will adopt them as their team. No marketing ploy will ever do it, and will only serve to cheapen the brand and expose the new ownership pairing of Rogers+Bell to be completely wrong minded about what needs to be done.

I agree. Initially, I was leaning toward a Huskies re-brand, but the novelty of it wore-off when I started reminiscing about all the Raptors history I had witnessed watching them. There are so many great memories, that it really would be a disservice to reject them for a team name that never substantiated to anything worth noting, beyond being in the first BAA game.MEDIC wrote:I agree with Courtside. I'd rather just keep the original name. It actually means something to us fans regardless of the history (all of it isn't bad). I have good memories of Isiah Thomas breaking through the Raptors logo, the contest leading up to the name, Mighty Mouse rookie of the year, VC, Oak, T-Mac, Boogie Williams, JYD, Carlos Rogers, Keon Clark, Doug Christie, Mo-Pete, Willis.......hell, I even have fond memories of Oliver Miller, Hakeem, & AD. After that era, things really started going down hill.
Aside from T-Mac, Mighty Mouse & VC leaving, this franchise started off pretty damn well. We made some home run drafts pick early on & almost made it to the conference finals.
Those were exciting times to be a Raps fan.
All this organization needs to do is get back to that. Get back to winning.

I agree. If you do not include a picture of the raptor in the logo, you give the franchise freedom to make the raptor look however they want in the future. There are so many types in the raptors family and different professional opinions on what they might have looked like. So why bother to try and define that with a logo. Instead, allow the freedom to play with the image through their mascots and advertisements instead.StopitLeo wrote:I wish we would forget the raptor head and just stick with the claw. Nice and simple. Then focus can be on the typeface and jersey/shorts colour blocking.

I hope the organization wakes up and realizes that we need to tear it down and rebuild....not necessarily the team but everything around it.....logo, colours, management culture, define a style of play or a style associated with the team (ie.. Indiana tough hard nosed team)
Sometimes you just need a fresh start.
In reference to an earlier poster who mentioned aside from VC, TMAC and Damon leaving we were off to a pretty good start..........yeah great start, our best 3 players we've ever had all became disgruntled and left the team......fantastic....

In agreement 100%. To me a re-brand is a tacky way of saying 'we want to move on from our past/failures without actually putting up results'. its make belief crap
