And that's why I said "aside"......
I was referring to the home run draft picks that were made & the product on the court.
From 1995 to 1998, here are the draft picks that we made:
1995 - Damon Stoudamire (7th pick overall)
1996 - Marcus Camby (2nd pick overall)
1997 - Tracy Macgrady (9th pick overall)
1998 - Vince Carter (swapped 4th pick for 5th pick)
Hell, even our 21st pick in 2000 ended up being a pretty good one in Mo Pete.
Our first 4 years in the league we pretty much made home run draft picks. We drafted a very solid PG that won rookie of the year, a C that went on to win defensive player of the year in his career, a SF that was a multiple allstar & scoring leader, a SG/ SF that went to multiple allstar games & at one point was the most popular player in the world.
We also brought some very well respected veterans here & were one shot away from making the conference finals.
Since that era, what have we really done? Our draft picks have been terrible for the most part or we traded them away. We made it to the playoffs twice, but both were quick first round exits.
Since our T-Mac/ Stoudamire mid lotto picks, what have we come up with? Araujo? Villanueva? Derozan? Ross?
Hopefully Jonas turns our luck around.....
