LAL/LAC - Howard for Griffin
It's been discussed, Griffin + Bledsoe for S&T'd Dwight Howard. Who says no?
Would it work within current CBA?
As a Laker fan I'm all for it.
Not that happy to gift a Paul/Howard tandem to the Clippers but long term isn't a bad choice for us.

Clippers only says yes if Paul tells them he is packing his bags for Texas or Atlanta

I'd think they'd do that in a heartbeat if that was on the table.
If both Howard and Paul are set and done in the Clippers, I'd imagine Smith would want to join in on the fun too.
Clips could offer DJ + Bledsoe for Smith if he really wanted out. The rise of a new empire.
CP3/Jsmoove/Howard Best defense in the league and best P&R...

Adding Smith would be a mistake and without the right coach that absolutely isnt the best defense in the league. And nor would it be the best PnR because neither Howard nor Smith are good PnR players.

Really? I wonder why. I mean, aside from getting a young, athletic point guard with a lot of upside....and your team needs youth and athleticism more than anything. And aside from you getting a player who isn't in decline, as Howard is. Instead, you're getting rid of a whiner who has a few screws up loose up top for a guy who has a very high ceiling.
Yeah, I'll bet you're all for it.

Griffin has a high ceiling? His ceiling is probably beneath Howard's floor so that makes almost no sense.

Lionel Hollins would be perfect for the team.

Ignorant much? Howard is on the decline, but Griffin has a very high cieling?
Let me guess, next thing you know, Jordan is almost as good as Howard, yeah?

and bledsoe's ceiling is less than Griffin's floor so that would be even worse. Howard has his problems to be sure, but his ability to impact basketball games is far greater than that pair from LAC. Now if their choice is that or nothing than sure Id rather have them especially since Griffin could entertain the Hollywood crowd while they put together their next dynasty. But to prefer that combo over Howard is completely ridiculous.

I would also do it as an LA fan because I think Howard is not the same player and mentally weak. However, it would take more than that offer there. I would think LA would need to throw in next years 1st as well. Then LA could potentially call up the T Wolves and see if they want to think about a deal involving KLove for Griffin. Rubio to Griffin would be a sick combo and KLove was born to play in D' Antoni's system.

Bledsoe is coming to the Laker in the first deal, can't offer him to the Hawks. Also not really sure is a good fit but whatever.

Considering the situation is a good deal for us, but not one we would make if Howard was already extended. I guess our view on Griffin's ceiling is a bit different.

Re: LAL/LAC - Howard for Griffin
Unless the Lakers can flip Bledsoe, he'd be gone after a year likely and wouldn't even be able to play with a healthy Kobe.
Griffin is paid way too much. The Lakers have had the most chance of anyone whose not the Clippers to see him and I'm sure if they move Dwight they don't want to take on another similar flawed player.
Paying about 43 mil for a frontcourt of Pau, Griffin, and MWP is a recipe for disaster. Add in Kobe and Nash's salaries and you're at over 80 mil for your starting lineup and that lineup would be lucky to make the playoffs in the West with Kobe's injury.

i'd rather take chances on having $0 committed in salary for 2014.
maybe Nash is on the books for $9M, but if he retires, then Lakers are looking good.
we won't stay down for long, that's for damn sure.

What the odds of LA getting two players better than Griffin in FA? Blake has his faults but no way Lakers turn down a legit 20 and 10 option if Howard is walking.

I'd say the odds that they can use that 20 mil to get several players who have more impact than Blake is very high. Also, they're the Lakers so they likely could get someone better than Blake.
And calling Blake a legit 20 and 10 option is a bit of a reach. His stats last year were 18 and 8.3. He did average 20 and 10 when he was the only big, but the team sucked then so I wouldn't put too much stock in those stats.

Like which combination of players could you realistically sign for under 20? A lot of FA are restricted so you would have to overpay to get them.Additionally,Lakers would have enough those cap space for the 20 million of several players and 18 million dollar Griffin contract.
It is not too much of a stretch. He put up 20 and 10 his rookie year. Sure his team sucked but not like he was the only offensive threat on the team. That team was pretty solid offensively, just terrible on defense. The year Paul came he also put up 20 and 10. So he has put up 20 and 10 on both good and bad teams. He did not put up 20 and 10 but his shots was down. He was pretty much 2 shots a game more away this year from 20 and 10.

Re: LAL/LAC - Howard for Griffin
The Lakers can get players to sign there when they have space. That's not a problem for them.
I don't see Griffin doing anything for them the next 2 seasons unless they change things up drastically. He and Pau would be an abysmal frontcourt defensively. The team last season had no problems with offense but had huge holes defensively even with Howard.
Adding Griffin to a team hoping to be a contender that has serious defensive issues isn't a great idea in my opinion.
As far as the 20-10 thing, it's not the 20 points I'm concerned with. He had a lot of scorers on his team, it's bound to happen. It's the rebounds that I'm not sold on. He grabbed the most on a bad team and has been declining since he has gotten a better team.
I know all stats will go down a bit when you get a better team, but the Clippers relied on Griffin heavily. This wasn't Duncan with the Spurs or Lebron getting more rests because of blowouts. His stats this year looked almost identical to David West's stats, who is a good player in his own right, but I have never heard of David West as a legit 20-10 guy.

Of course you haven't heard that about west. He has never averaged 10 rebounds. He been declining because he has played with better rebounders since his rookie year. Lakers aren't contending without Dwight. Might as well get a building block for the future.
