Hawks Hire Darvin Ham as Assistant Coach

Per WT and Chris Broussard, Darvin Ham has left the Lakers to be an assistant coach on Mike Budenholzer's coaching staff in Atlanta. This leaves Dan D'Antoni as the sole remaining assistant coach. :o Now Dumbtoni has full reign to bring in his other assistant coaches. Thoughts? I find it funny that Atlanta is trying sooo hard to get D12, that they'll even hire one of his assistant coaches from last season. Is it even public that D12 likes Darvin Ham? Seems like he hates everyone but himself.

its been known since the season ended that only his brother was going to be brought back. happy that brown's coaches got to finish the season, but also happy that d'antoni gets to bring in his own people now. always good for a head coach to be able to do that.

I knew D'Antoni would eventually bring his own guys in, but I didn't think that every single assistant would be ousted. Misunderstanding by me I guess.

At this point, I don't care who he brings in for help. It won't change my opinion about him being a horrible fit for the Lakers.

thats a fair pov to have, but if you accept that d'antoni is going to be the coach whether u like it or not, at least to start off the yr, you have to at least feel a tad better knowing that he gets to surround himself with people that he feels comfortable with.

I think MDA get help from his Cosa Nostra connection in New York to hire his own asisstants. This is the only way he can get them.

I have a pretty good feeling Phil Weber, his assistant from both New York and Phoenix, will reunite with him here in LA. That still leaves 2 or so spots left. Hope we can also nab a good defensive assistant that can hide MDA's blatant flaws.

That makes me feel much worse, actually. Mike D'Antoni seems like a guy who enjoys the presence of people who have an equal to or less than basketball knowledge of him. By letting go of all of these assistants, this idiot is essentially allowed to surround himself with more idiots. And don't even get me started on the whole 'hiring your brother as an assistant coach' thing, either.

Alvin Gentry has a standing offer if he can't get a head coaching gig

Gentry chooses to join Doc over MDA....anyone else getting a little nervous about the lack of assistants signing with the Lakers under MDA? Feeling a lot of negative energy. Like they know they won't last long....

That pretty much sums it up. I think a lot of these assistants recognize that MDA will soon be on the hot seat and don't want to be canned along with him.

It's not about people turning us down, it's about the rate at which other teams are filling their coaching staffs. It stands to reason that the best coaches are getting grabbed quickly.

This summer compared to the last two has an oddly quiet vibe to it.

@KevinDing: Here's a new one: Clippers outbid Lakers so far in $ that it was an easy decision for Alvin Gentry to join Doc Rivers over D'Antoni.

Hmm. Never thought I'd see the day where Donald Sterling would outbid us.

Oh well.
