Kings Hire Denver VP, Pete D'Alessandro as GM

Post#1 » by Nicky Nix Nook » Sat Jun 15, 2013 7:39 pm

@sam_amick: Can confirm Kings are hiring Denver VP of basketball ops Pete D'Alessandro as GM. Story to come at @USATODAYsports

@CarmichaelDave: Having a law degree, understanding basketball and numbers- these are all huge advantages for today's GM. Rock and roll baby!

I'm happy we're going with some new blood, don't know much about him, though.

I'm excited about the news about Pete. Maybe the plan is now to hire an established named guy to oversee the Basketball operations. Maybe Chris Wallace ? Should explain the series of meetings with him right?

Congrats on the hire, Kings fans. D'Alessandro seems like he will become a solid GM for your team.

Denver, though, is getting messed up this offseason. People leaving left and right.

Love it. A youth movement in the front office. Bobby Marks should come with him. I love giving the younger candidate a shot. Wallace may follow.

Dave said Wallace will most likely be President of Basketball Ops. Not a bad front office.

Wallace as the possible eye for talent and Pete as the stats guy. I love it.

This came out of no where, nice. Don't know much about this guy, but I like what I'm hearing/reading about him -- young, smart, & showing potential. Should be a great acquisition for a franchise seeking a fresh start to a new era.

In comparison to Layden, this is an excellent hire/

I'm down for this. Denver has responded better to losing their star than just about any franchise. If we can get Wallace, all the better.

LOVE IT!

I'm all about this hire. Nuggets were able to play at a high level without a true star. Each player fit perfectly into their system. This is the exact opposite of what we have in Sacramento. Hopefully, he can right this wrong.

Kind of interesting that the Kings are hiring bottom up instead of top down. Usually you'd expect something like:

GM => Assistant GM (hired by GM) => coach (hired by GM)

In this case we're going backwards:

coach (hired by owner) => GM (hired by owner) => operations (hired by owner)

I like that we have one guy at the very top that's putting together (hopefully) a team of guys who should work well together and hide each other's weaknesses (and hold/improve their strengths)

The danger is that you end up pitting those guys against each other, because they're all loyal to the owner who hired them. Or that you get an owner delivering questionable commands from on high..

Don't know much about D'alessandro, but as a Celtics fan I will absolutely vouch for Chris Wallace as a talent evaluator, he's very good. His 'mistakes' in Boston were largely a result of deferring to his colleagues- a super-impatient Rick Pitino and a super-cheap owner, Paul Gaston.

Raptor fan here - great hire guys, Pete looks like a gem. Masai speaks very highly of him as well.

I'm happy about this hire. The Nuggets put together a hell of a roster when he was there. The stats and salary cap expertise are excellent. I'll be patiently waiting for the moves the new FO makes this summer. Hoping for a new look Kings come October.

I've always been a fan of Iggy's game. I would love for us to acquire him, he'd be a great fit IMO. With that said, if management really wants him, they'll do what's necessary and move some contracts around in order to make it work. I'm curious to see the direction management goes with this team. I hope they make some trades this offseason, maybe give us some cap room and explore free agency.

Just daydreaming out loud. Amnesty Salmons; shed Thompson, Hayes, Outlaw, Jimmer, and Thornton; S&T Evans for Josh Smith.

PG-Trey Burke/Isaiah Thomas
SG-Tony Allen/Kyle Korver
SF-Andre Iguodala/Dorell Wright
PF-Josh Smith/Pat Patterson
C-Demarcus Cousins/Samuel Dalembert

Salmons is really the only guy who we can amnesty that's overpaid, so like, good God, why not do that right now?

Isn't Salmons an expiring? And Outlaw is the only SF left because James Johnson ate his way to PF.
