I won't hate on them bringing him back, but I will hate on how they announced it. People were going to tune into MITB no matter what, it's a top PPV, been that since it's inception. They shoulda surprised us better.

Same here, I only pay to see MITB, Royal Rumble and WM every year, it would have been more special, and would be something to take from MITB if it failed to deliver.

I don't mind them announcing it early. The way the internet is now it would have leaked way before MITB anyway. I just hope RVD is in better shape than he was the last I saw him in TNA. He was starting to get a little sloppy from what I remember.

The last I saw of him in TNA he could hardly still compete. I've always been a huge RvD fan but I hope they are not giving him an in ring push.

I was a bit tentative as a couple of you have mentioned - how good will he be when he comes back?

A part of me thought when the announcement was done is that its interesting when WWE use old stars to generate some excitement and what that says for current roster people - this thought was helped a bit before/during/after that cena/ryback fight where it just seemed to fall flat (no one seems to like either right now - and thats one of the main feuds).

I remember reading somewhere about something along the lines of using old talent is bad for the new talent, I think it surrounded the likes of the Rock coming back, Triple H just fighting on for "nothing but pride" and all that.

I just thought to myself though, look how excited the crowd was - all doing the RVD chant and what not. Its sport entertainment, and some value of that is that we are fortunate that the wrestlers dont always need to be in prime shape to provide the content. The Rock wasnt "electrifying" in the ring as he was, hell his mic work even felt a bit weak (maybe dated is the word), but yet I still "felt it" when he walked out. Theres value to the old letting the new get over (Y2J ...) but also there is just something cool about seeing your old favourites coming back just for the reason that they are old favourites and can hopefully give something to the show.

None of that makes sense I bet lol.

Looking forward to seeing him, he was here in the UK doing some promo stuff a few months back (my brother saw him, wasnt there) didn't think much of it but maybe hes doing the circuit right now and getting his face back out there.

Makes sense to me. I always think like that when they bring back the old stars, first the side that says you don't need these guys, they are coming back part time, get booked larger than the rest of the roster and leave, makes it hard to develop other talents to those levels, etc.

Then usually in their first couple appearances back I'll soften on that stance as there's usually at least some nostalgic feel to seeing those guys come back, as an armchair booker it's easy to say you don't need these guys, build up their replacements instead, but then you see the way the live crowd reacts to seeing the guys and it's hard to argue against it.

What makes it hard for me to get excited in RVD's case is that for some years now he hasn't looked anywhere near what he did about a decade ago, and has had some matches that were flat out horrible, though to be fair to him his most recent X-Division title reign was... well not horrible at least relative to what he did as a main eventer in TNA.

After thinking about it for a couple of days though, if it's a one event deal I think it could end up being a good move. MITB is in Philly this year, home of ECW, they are going to love seeing him, maybe he has one more really good night in him. If he's in the MITB match and bombs then you have (likely) 5 other regular superstars to carry him through, not like a one on one feud where he's going to be focused on throughout. More than one night though and I just don't know.
