Post#1 » by Clip34life » Mon Jun 17, 2013 5:16 pm

Paul
Afflalo
Pierce
Griffin
Garnett

Is that team the presumed favorite?

I'd say a strong candidate but not the clear #1 option to win it all.

In the year 2013, no.

Would depend on the coaching and the bench. If they're able to keep the dinosaurs healthy, then they have a good shot.

It's a good line up but I wouldn't be comfortable shortening my championship window on the chance of Pierce and KG staying healthy

I guess it's what is the alternative? I don't think they can get younger pieces with their assets so it's like go for it or not.

reports are that the clippers want to hold on to bledsoe to trade him along with butler's expiring elsewhere and supposedly their top two targets would be Afflalo and Granger.

They aren't shortening their championship window with this move - they're actually making sure that they got a championship window.

Its more of opening your championship window rather than closing it.

Why not just sign Tony Allen to the MLE, and then trade Bledsoe for Granger?

Allen/Paul would be the best defensive backcourt in the league. Granger would be a great piece off the bench, backing up Pierce.

Don't like the idea of tying up that kind of money on an undersized, old, one-dimensional player. If anything, the Clippers (assuming Pierce would be off the table for the MLE) need to go after younger players with the MLE.

Gotta go all in when you have the chance:

If you do this Celtics deal, you have a maybe 2 year shot at winning the title with KG and Pierce. You've already committed a bunch of money to old players at that point. Try to assemble the best possible team you can while you have a window. Raise the banner, and worry about finances later.

And how are they going to trade for Garnett and take Terry/Lee back without including Butler to begin with? Or is Boston actually really going to take it completely up their ass?
But do you know what they call a fool, who's full of himself and jumps into the path of death because it's cool?

I'm not disagreeing on going all in; I'm just saying I think the Clippers have to spend their MLE on Pierce for him to come (pride and all). If for some reason he doesn't sign with them (i.e. Boston doesn't buy him out), then they need to be careful who they spend their MLE on and I think there are better candidates for that $$ than Tony Allen.

This is why they need Grant Hill to un-retire....

I totally didn't take into account that you'd have to use the MLE to sign Pierce. My bad.
