Salmons is expiring, but why not? He's the only guy we can use it on besides, I think, Cuz, and obviously that's not going to happen. Part of the reason we'd amnesty him would be to find the actual solution at SF. Not an increasingly weaker band-aid.

Salmons isn't a bad player, as long as he's not on the floor at the same time as MT23 or Evans. Too bad he doesn't have the heart to come off the bench, when he's on he makes our team so much better.

Pretty much, and it at least gives the Kings some possible breathing room in FA. Yeah, a measly 5-6 million probably but it's still something. If they ended up renouncing all the FA's that could be close to 20 million under the cap. Find a team to dump some of Jimmer's or JT's salary on and you're sitting pretty and can prime yourself for a trade or revamp the team sooner than later. Don't forget, that major tax kicks in soon so there might just be a steal waiting to happen trade wise.

There are a lot of positive signs coming from Sacramento, but Kings are playing catch-up, so I don't think you can get anybody without pretty big overpay. Much rather wait till deadline or next summer. Last summer nobody thought Houston had non-zero chance to land Howard. Fast-forward one year, Rockets are believed to trail only to Lakers in their chances. Nobody is gonna believe you're going to be good, unless you show it on the court. Well, you can always overpay, but I don't think Ranadive is that eager to part with his money.

D'Allesandro says analytics will be a big part of how we do this, says the culture change has already started with the new ownership, seems really genuinely excited.

Turns out our new GM and my mom share the same birthday (today)! I'll take that a very good sign!

You talk about two different walks of life...PDA and Malone. Malone is relaxed, cool, and stern...PDA is awkward (laughs at his own joke), looks like a character off of Big Bang Theory, and seems like a genuine family man. Should be interesting to see how he develops in his role as GM.

At least the Kings have someone who understands the cap now, probably the biggest asset needed for a Kings GM right now.

Just watched the presser. I really like this guy. For some reason I have the utmost confidence in the head decision makers right now.

Very exciting time to be a Kings fan. I really like, and believe these 3 guys have a vision, but more importantly they know how they will get there.
To me it came across as there will be plenty of movement as well player wise so it will be a very interesting couple of weeks.

Long time reader, first time posting to the board. I figure its about time to contribute seeing all the life being put back into the organization (and fans!).
True. My gut feeling is that PDA will work well with the "relaxed, cool, and stern..." Malone considering he's just come from working with the Nuggets and George Karl. One of the best coaches of all time IMO. I think Vivek is being smart in not just hiring young and smart, but also professional individuals. I believe all these new people have a sense of the excitement and anticipation surrounding the 'new' Kings and will work hard at working together (read: as a TEAM) in order to put the best team on the floor.

The excitement of coming from a dysfunctional and disrespected team to the possibility of simply having a .500+ season is intoxicating.

Welcome! It's always good to have new opinions/comments about the Kings. I was a long time lurker as well and came out of hiding awhile back. Haha.
I do have concerns with PDA -- and I'm not so sure they are valid concerns. I love that he's smart and open to the analytics side of basketball. I think it's an important aspect of today's professional sport teams-- look no further than to the Oakland A's. Great franchise on a Maloof-like budget. My concern with PDA is the last time we made a hire due to ones intelligence and power point skills was Eric Musselman (SP?). I know it's one thing to intellectually impress the Maloofs, and another to impress Vivek; however, the though still lingers in the back of my mind. LOL

The main difference between a hire like PDA and Musselman, IMO is that PDA has had what i would call major success in his role prior to coming here, albeit as an assistant.

Re: Kings Hire Denver VP, Pete D'Alessandro as GM
Theus was hired because he was cheap. That's all.
Mussleman was hired because he was cheap. That's all.
Westfall was hired because he was cheap. That's all.
Smart was hired because he was cheap. That's all.
If the average coach is getting $3.4m and we're paying half that to a coach there is a reason we're rotating coaches. You're not going to get anyone with much experience with that kind of coin, and with our situation it's almost career suicide to come in.
