Danny Green might win Finals MVP. Wonder if anyone put money on that...
Eric Maynor is the worst basketball player I've ever seen.

I'm quoting out of context, but that reminded me of Vesely complaining about the Wiz wanting him to get bigger. I'm pretty sure they want him to get stronger - like Splitter - not necessarily bigger. If Vesely was as strong as Splitter, I expect everyone on the Wiz would be very happy. But does Vesely understand that?

I was also thinking that last night. Neither of the Spurs Big Three have been great statistically. If Green goes off for 20+ in a win on Tuesday, I think he should get it.

Agreed, which would make him the most unheralded Finals MVP ever.

I think it depends on the selection process. If the winner is picked with a plurality, I think Green could get it. If it is a run-off of the top 2, then I think Parker or Duncan would beat out Green.

rather prohibitive longshot I'd have to agree just on the face of it.
then factor in he's going up against either LBJ or DWade, 2 HOFers, and
the odds get ridiculous.
Martell had to be smilin a little when ray-ray made those 2 4pt plays.
My take home message from this (DG- Finals MVP) is simply the idea that the potential
to become really good is there for a great number of players but it often
comes down to the intersection of extreme preparation ie hard work
and opportunity which is often quite rare.
OKC has to be shakin their collective heads when they realize how
rare and hard it is just to make the Finals. They may have chances
in the future. Or not.

or at least since Johnny Johnson in 1979, against the Bullets.
I saw the real BobbyD at the Champ anniversary thing a couple months ago.
I asked if he thought JJ would have been Finals MVP if he (Bobby) had been healthy
that year. He smiled and said probably not.
It is quite rare in basketball but interestingly somewhat common in baseball.
Look at a list of the last 20 WS MVPs and you probably don't see a whole lot of
HOFers. Just the opposite in hoops. The last 20 Finals MVPs are almost all HOF locks.

Yep, Mike & Mike went through all of the NBA Finals MVPs, back to Jerry West in 1969 (on a losing team, no less!), and I think only 2 are not in the HOF or pretty much future locks for the HOF - Cedric Maxwell and Chauncey Billups. (They even allowed for the possibility that Chauncey could make the HOF, but I don't see it.)
Another way of looking at it - what was the draft position of the MVPs? A whole lotta #1#1's (Magic, Kareem, Shaq, LeBron, Olajuwon, Duncan), a few draft anomalies like Bird & Kobe, a handful of other Lottery picks like MJ, Wade, and Billups. Parker stands out as a very late 1st rounder, but Green would still be incredibly "out of place" in that list.
Of course, that's nothing on the Super Bowl MVPs. That's a list of Who's Whos and Who's That's? (Larry Brown, Desmond Howard, Dexter Jackson, Chuck Howley....)

Between the sentimentality and the fact that Duncan is the alpha and the omega of that defense, I think if the Spurs win, it'd be Timmy in a runaway.
Edit: Parker of course is an obvious "draft anomaly" as is 2nd rounder Willis Reed, and to an extent 10th overall pick Paul Pierce.

Dennis Johnson, and he'd already played in his first All-Star game that year and was chosen to the 78-79 All-Defensive 1st team, so he was by then a pretty well known commodity. There have been other non-superstars, like Johnson or Cedric Maxwell, but Danny Green has scored only 10.5 ppg in this his best year ever, and his playoffs were looking fairly similar until the finals. It's a really amazing series for him.

The scary part for the Heat is that they gave a pretty damn good shot tonight, shot 48% from 3 pt land and had a chance of making it a game cause of the Spurs recklessness and they still got beat convincingly.
Joey Crawford is probably en route to Miami as we speak though.
Yeah, nuposse, i expect the "prolong-the-series refs" are on the way to Miami to call game six.
The Wizards shoukd have drafted Derik Queen

If Timmy goes back in the Time Machine and has a 20/20 game to close out Miami he will win. If Green hits 4 or 5 threes and scores 20 again he can win. Parker has led SA all season. My guess is he might takeover in an effort to win for Timmy.
Parker is destroying Cole. Tony is creating passing lanes and kick outs to shooters. He should win MVP IMO if SA wins,

Tonight's refs for Game 6 will be:
JOEY CRAWFORD
Mike Callahan
KEN MAUER

Lol, they don't have to be told by the Commissioner's Office that there WILL be a game 7.

Re: NBA Games Discussion Thread - Part 2
Spurs are 2-1 this postseason with the Joey Crawford crew. All on the road. The one loss though was Game 2 in this series. But that was decided by a that 35-5 run by the Heat... I don't see something like that happening tonight though.
If they lose tonight, series is over. Scott Foster and Bill Kennedy are sure to ref Game 7 and they are by far the worst officiating crew.

Quick question, is Chris Bosh a hall of fame player? He's an 8 time all-star, 1 time All-NBA, career averages of 20/9. He'll likely have 3-4 more all-star appearances. A key piece on at least 1 Championship team, been to the finals 3 times.

Re: NBA Games Discussion Thread - Part 2
I think so. He was such a beast in Toronto, but probably flew under the radar since he played for the Raptors. If he played for BOS or LAL I think he would be a shoe in.
What about Vince Carter? He's also an 8 time all star, in his prime was averaging 27 pts a game for multiple season, including 30 pts a game in the playoffs, won an olympic gold medal, 2x all nba, was rookie of the year, etc. But never won a championship.
