and there are posters here that "get" me and "get" you. it is part of on-line persona. you can see who Bruce really is on occasion. same with Wilner. piece their tweets together to get who the real person is. but you do have to dig a bit and read between the lines

I can't believe Wilner has his own thread.

Slow news day?

Absolutely. I listen to him on the radio. And I watch him on TSN the Reporters. I just never understood his need for Twitter jokes. But if that's his Twitter routine, I can't bring myself to follow him. No different than how we always suggest people use the Ignore button. I used it, as far as I'm concerned. And if he breaks any news, someone else will retweet him.

It's interesting though, how Twitter works. If you follow a person, just for news, you get stuck with their personal tweets. With a paper, or radio segment, or tv show, it's mostly just the content, and less of the personality. I also follow Greg Brady, who like Arthur shows more personality, but I have stuck with Brady up till now because his sarcastic comments tend to have some substance, and teach me something.

Wilner is a dick, he argues just to disagree with the callers. He tries to find anything in the stats that are positive just so he can win his argument. For example we all know what a terrible hitter Bonifacio is, Wilner will say well 2 years ago he hit 296. On another show he says we can't judge a player based on average. So he's saying average isn't that important, but later when a caller phones in and says Bonifacio is no good Wilner will say well 2 years ago he hit 296.

Yeah, I have nothing against Arthur as a reporter, but his twitter feed is absolutely insane. He's clearly a firm believer in quantity over quality.

At the beginning of today's post game show, I was waiting to hear Hayhurst give Wilmer a backhand slap for be a jerk during their conversation.

Wilner keeps diminishing Kawasaki's value and pretending that the only reason anybody likes him is because he's a glorified mascot. I suspect I may end up giving him a call at some point if that keeps up (especially if Kawasaki unjustly gets sent down).

I don't understand Wilner. He will defend everyone on this team (including Frank Francisco) to death, but rags on possibly the biggest fan favourite this team has seen in years. It's like he's allergic to fun.

Wlner is very cognizant of his credibility on air. He knows that for some people their existence in life rotates around reminding him of the mistakes in judgement he has made--it's why he is such a baby whenever anyone asks him to make any kind of educated guess about the future now.

He probably downplayed the signing in the first place and also played up Boni/Izturis as being able to recapture value. He cannot in all good ecred conscience go back and switch loyalties...unless the numbers are ridiculous (and even then, he's going to talk about sample size). He's right in that it is the simplest solution, and that Kawasaki is not some magic wand, but hell, he could at least acknowledge his contributions without being such a twat about it.

I suspect he's been preparing himself for weeks to defend the Jays sending Kawasaki down to the many fans that love the guy. It was the likely outcome of Kawasaki's run for a long time, so I get why it's hard to suddenly change course now. But ignoring the value he brings (and propping up awful players at the same time) is no way to go about that.

let's put it in perspective. Kawasaki's a typical Toronto lunch bucket hero and the fans love him. Joe Public also highly overrates him and if you asked them what his batting average is, they're probably tell you its closer to .275 than .230.

so i get Wilner saying that Kawasaki being demoted isn't a horrible thing because, frankly, it isn't. the optics aren't great, but his stats (save for his OBP and pitches per at bat, i'd guess) won't be sorely missed. of course, if we're talking about replacing BoneFace with Kawasaki, then i'm all over it. if we're talking about starting Kawasaki over Reyes - which I'd guess that a few callers would advocate - then Wilner is 100% correct

Wilner just said he would not trade Lawrie for a year and a half of Chase Hedley.

And?

I'm trying to understand where the punchline is here, since you find his answer amusing, other than you obviously trying so hard time to slag Wilner, even if you end up looking stupid in the process.

You wouldn't trade Lawrie for Headley?

I wouldn't, Headley is a nice player but no way is he worth Lawrie. He's making a decent chunk of money this year and next year he'll make 12-14 million and i'm not completely convinced he's better moving forward than Lawrie.

Straight up, no way.

I'd be interested in the Jays going after Headley, but with the years of control remaining on Lawrie and the upside that he possesses, I don't see the benefit to moving Lawrie for him.

Acquiring Headley and moving one of him/Lawrie to second sure would a nice boost for this team though.
