I'm sure someone has done a breakdown on this. I took a quick look but couldn't find anything on it, but if this is a double up, mods please lock.
I can't get a concrete answer on whether or not Lin and Asik's deals still feature that poison pill $14M season in 2014/15, or if their deals are averaged out to $8M a season? That would be part of the biggest hurdles to overcome.
Hoopshype has Houston sitting on $38M of guaranteed salaries, whilst Shamsports has them on $54M ($48M after Garcia is gone). Why is there such a large discrepancy there??
I would imagine that if Houston can make room for Howard and Paul without having to orchestrate a s&t, it would be ideal. I'd imagine LAL and LAC would delay things considerably on that front (although, playing them against each other might force them to play nice?). still, there is plenty of cap space out there to absorb two young talents like Asik and Lin.
Anyways, has anyone done a breakdown on it? A Howard/Parsons/Harden/Paul combo would be pretty damn tight.
How possible is it for Houston to get both Howard and Paul?

Re: How possible is it for Houston to get both Howard and Pa
Asik & Lin's deals average out to about $8.3M as far as cap hits go. That is the important number, not what they are actually paid. There is no question about that. I don't believe that either site you listed reflects the cap hit, only pure salary.
As for what they can do: move young players for non-guaranteed contracts or TPE's. Not sure exactly how Morey will do it, but he's consistently shown an ability to make the needed moves when it comes to the salary cap.

Not sure if I'm right about this, but to my understanding, the Rockets would have to move T-Rob, Lin, and Asik for almost no salary in return. They would then have enough cap space to get both Paul and Howard. There may be a less extreme way, but this is the only way that I know.

It would require Lin, Asik and Trob going out with no money coming back in and then one of CP3/Howard taking slightly less than max.

for the millionth time, the poison pill contract works ONLY IF the other teams matched. they didnt match, so its 8mil per for houston.

Technically not impossible, just very unlikely. For a better understanding of the cap situation I'll break it down with the help of some old tweets of mine:
Red Nation @2016Champions 16 Jun
Getting rid of all un-guaranteed contracts but Patrick Beverley and Greg Smith, HOU have $16,181,453 in cap space assuming a $58.5m cap.
Red Nation @2016Champions 16 Jun
From there, by trading T-Rob, then using Stretch Provision on Royce White, HOU have $20.36m in cap space assuming a $58.5m cap.
And from there would we would to find takers for Lin and Asik (combined salary of $16.6 million) for Chris Paul, but the problem with that is it wouldn't be enough for Paul's max ($18.6 million). So if it was to go down, Chris Paul and Dwight Howard would both have to agree to a discount of $1 million (after the Rockets find takers for Asik, Lin, and Robinson). One again, technically not impossible, just very unlikely due to the amount of things that need to come together to make it happen (starting with Chris's and Dwight's agreement).
I've heard some people bring up the option of a sign and trade but I don't think that's even worth talking about, there's no way a team in the same conference will help the Rockets form a powerhouse.
I mapped out some of my calculations here if anyone wants to double-check it: http://s18.postimg.org/ya7vhw8u1/Rocket ... ations.jpg
