I don't know why so many Bobcats fans & observers are or were so concerned with trying to find a upgrade for Gerald Henderson this offseason at SG when he's arguably above average at his position. Both Ben McLemore & Victor Oladipo may very well become good players in the NBA, but I wouldn't waste a whole season of losing & getting a top 5 pick on what might become a lateral move. Charlotte is completely depleted at PF & C. There's not a actual quality starter at either of those positions yet, even though I would consider Josh McRoberts serviceable & Bismack Biyombo has shown flashes

Yet on this same page you're saying it doesn't matter?

The draft for Cho is BPA, if that is a SG, we take a SG.

I am thinking we should sign Hendo more and more. If people are getting excited over what Tobias Harris did in Orlando then why can't we see what Hendo did during that same stretch of games. Henderson can get a midrange jump shot almost whenever he wants it and I think his three point percentage will only continue to climb.

He finished 11th in the NBA in scoring among shooting guards and that was with him coming off the bench for some games.

Hendo's status?

What's the latest on a contract to keep Hendo?

Looks like the majority of us have come to the consensus that we should sign him by all means necessary. Is there still anybody on my side who thinks that the post-all star game performance of his was a push for a contract and that we should be concerned about the player who decided to simply turn it on?

I don't think he's the player he's made out to be on this board. Anything around 6 a year I'd be fine with resigning him. If he's offered more than that I'd let him walk.

I am 100% team Lamar on this one.

And even if the contract push isn't the case, I think what we saw post All Star break is the absolute best we will ever see Hendo - and I'm not sure if that is sustainable for him. Even if it is, 18/4/3 are nice numbers, but they still aren't more than 7 mil per year numbers to me.

I also think the fact that he misses 20+ games per year seems to go unnoticed.

the improvement Hendo's shown from three so far:

2009-10: 4/19 .211 (0.1/0.4 per game)
2010-11: 7/36 .194 (0.1/0.5)
2011-12: 11/47 .234 (0.2/0.9)
2012-13: 33/100 .330 (0.5/1.5)

I may sound like a broken record, but what the heck. As I said it before, he has improved to the point that he can make the three pointer if left open. In today's game a shooting guard should be a threat who will make the three pointer if left open. Watching the way defenses can win playoff games by packing the paint if even one shooter has the slightest problem to make a three, I'm worried whether Hendo can play decent minutes in a playoff game. Take Shane Battier, per example, who cannot launch his threes quick enough before the defender closes out on him this year. And that's a guy who's made 150 threes in a season before (Fats scavenger hunt alert - that was the criteria for the "sharpshooter" category). Of course, it's a whole nother topic since Shane seems to be worn down by the long season of playing the 4 spot, but you get the point. The moment he couldn't make his threes any more is the moment when the opponents defense excelled and he eventually got benched.

Is he a decent player? Yes.
Is he a decent scorer? Yes.
Does he fit in today's game? No.
Should we then pay him acknowledging that he doesn't fit in today's game? No!

I'm on board with letting Hendo go elsewhere, if we replace him with Oladipo, and use the $7 mln we'd have to pay Gerald to sign several other players (ex: Timofey Mozgov + Francisco Garcia)

similar to the rookies predraft that release workout videos to try and boost their stock. kind of embarassing to have to be doing it as a 4 year vet

I like seeing it. Biyombo and MKG do it a few times a week.

I'm happy he decided to shave his head because his hairline was crazy. Nice to see him in the gym working, especially on that 3-point shot. If he improve on his last year improvements then I would love to see him return, even more than I already do.
