Goodbye to Grant and Jerry??

Post#1 » by DieHardKingsFan » Fri Jun 21, 2013 8:19 am

http://www.sacbee.com/2013/06/21/551358 ... -stay.html

The Bee's Tom Couzens asks with all the changes made to the Kings organization whether or not Grant and Jerry should stay.

I say Jerry stays, Grant's out, and bring back Jim Kozimor. Or, how about bringing in a former Kings player with Koz? Maybe someone like Scot Pollard. Personally, he's the funniest Kings player I ever met.

What do you guys think?

Would love it if they brought Koz back.

As for Grant, I don't know how I feel about him. He's a decent announcer, but I personally like more unbiased broadcasting. He also didn't stick up for the city until the very end, but I guess he didn't want to burn his bridges.

Keep them both. For better or worse, they're a part of the fabric of the team and city. Some things shouldn't change.

Grant: "Oooohhhh, boyyyy!!"

I'd be down for new announcers. The things Grant&Jerry say can be biased and a little corny at times.

With that said, they do hold some sentimental value to most of us Kings fans. It would be a little tough to see them go; they are good guys, and show a lot of love for this franchise.

Koz is terrible. Just bad on TV, and atrocious on the radio. Gary Gerold is fantastic on the radio. Jerry has been here from the start through thick and thin, and I am fond of him. If you have memories from the start he probably makes more sense to ya. Neutral with Grant, he has his good and bad moments.

If anything is sacred and untouchable in this franchise, it's Grant and Jerry (and Gary).

I agree. I've seen pretty much every broadcast duo the NBA has to offer and Grant and Jerry are top notch. They are less biased than just about any other commentators out there. If there is anything worth keeping as a holdover from the Maloofs era it's their production staff.

Pretty sure Koz has a contract with KNBR/CSN Bay Area TV since he's always working for them during the NBA season.

keep grant and jerry, and have Koz run a pre-game/post-game live with Scott Pollard and Gary St. Jean like CSN does for every other team they televise

With, or without? If you did indeed mean with, I'm curious as to why? You must really hate them. Haha.

I enjoy Grant and Jerry doing the games. Gary on radio is the best. Hope they are all retained.

Grant and Jerry are one of the better combo's in the league. They should stay. Bring back Koz and Katie tho!

I thought about this as I am not a Grant Napier fan, but it was his radio show that irked me more than anything. I feel he couldn't say OR said "the company line" too much. I can't say that I blame him (See Carmichael Dave) but at the same time as a listener I don't want to listen to a man say what he's supposed to.

Maybe that will change?

I do like Jerry and I do like the fact they both know the game but aren't caught up in the tabloid way of the NBA (rumors, RealGM hypothetical trades, etc). Jerry is just downright corny, but it works for him.

Gary Gerould is just plain GREAT at what he does. I ditched cable a few years back and the only thing I've missed (not really) is being able to see the Kings play. Isn't it amazing being able to hear a game called, but when you see the replay you really feel you saw it already? Between going to games and the G man I really don't need cable.

For Grant and Jerry, it's not so much about how great they are. Both are biased (which is fine for local) and I think the game passed Jerry by a while ago, but for me, their inclusion is more about how much they are a part of things.

G man on the other hand, truly is great at what he does. I didn't realize it until I tried to listen to games done by others, and was left totally baffled as to what was happening at all times. He's the best.

I don't agree the game has passed Jerry by, but rather he identifies with it from an old school POV.
