Hendo Vs McLemore
Existing Player Vs Potential Player.
Based on what Cho said (we should draft BPA regardless of position) I thought this might be interesting. I'll make several of these over the next week.
Who would you choose to move forward with as a Bobcats player and why?

Lol. This thread has potential.
I pick Henderson. Not because he's more talented than McLemore, but because I don't think McLemore will reach that potential.

I went with McLemore because of the range on his J, the fact that I think that Hendo has hit his ceiling and because of Hendo's contract situation.
I do wish he had Hendo's killer attitude though.

I think Henderson is a better overall player. His shot is coming around. Oladipo vs Henderson would be intriguing.

I went with Hendo here. I know his 3-point ability isn't that great but considering his work ethic and willingness to learn I believe its very possible he will develop a better 3-point game in the near future.

I picked Henderson because I feel the only thing McLemore does better than Hendo is shoot the 3. Other than that Hendo is a more well rounded player.

Re: Hendo Vs McLemore
While I picked Henderson I also feel we might be overrating our own player. Most fans do it, I do it, but we couldnt even get a first founder for Henderson before the trade deadline last season, and here we are picking him over a top 5 pick.
Screw it. I still pick Henderson.

Re: Hendo Vs McLemore
McLemore pretty easily for me.
I think he has the potential to be every bit as good as Henderson as a defender and rebounder. Also, I think dribbling skills are not that far off.
Next, people are worried about McLemore being a killer, but Henderson was not an alpha dog in college by any means. Also, he never showed his post game or turn around jumper, those were skills he acquired in NBA.
McLemore brings the three point shooting that Henderson will never have. Watching McLemore he has no sense of personal space much like ray Allen that he is not bothered by defenders closing out on him or hands in his face. His ability to set his feet, rise up and have the same form in every situation is something that is not found all the time.
Then you also, have to think that McLemore is going to be on a rookie contract, whereas Henderson is about to get a new contract that will be double of what BMac will make.
I think McLemore will be forced into being a go to scorer here, we are bad enough that he is going to have to quickly become a go to guy and be forced into taking more shots. Maybe in the beginning we bring him off the bench and force him to take more shots on the second unit.

Good point about the contract, but McLemore isn't ready to be a go to guy yet.

You need 3 point shooters in order to succeed at this time in the NBA. McLemore has one of the best strokes in recent memory.

Re: Hendo Vs McLemore
I think Ben McLemore is a better player than Gerald Henderson was coming off his freshman year of college and could have a better career, but I doubt that McLemore would fair much more than minimally better than Henderson statistically in the NBA, so I went with the more experienced pro as a certainty. I don't know, I could just as easily see McLemore having a similar career to Brandon Rush/Wesley Johnson as Ray Allen/Klay Thompson. There's just too much uncertainty with McLemore coming out of Kansas' system where he seemed tentative until he had a wide open 3-point look for me to believe in him reaching his ceiling if he could maximize his style of play to compliment his athleticism. Watching Danny Green go from hero to zero in the NBA Finals once the Heat took away his airspace only fuels my dislike for McLemore possibly coming to Charlotte

Re: Hendo Vs McLemore
I went with Hendo over McLemore only because I've seen the steady growth and improvement from him over his 4 years as a pro. I'm unsure on whether McLemore is going to boom or bust and he disappears too much for me in games when defenses take away his 3-pointer. At least with Hendo I believe he can create a shot if the ball is in his hands with 5 seconds left on the shot clock. If we had McLemore I'm sure he would funnel it back to Kemba like the rest of our team and then leave the stat sheet geeks that don't watch the games on here questioning why Kemba's FG% is so low.

Re: Hendo Vs McLemore
Another reason I took Henderson is his post game. His ability to back a defender down into the paint and shoot that fade is getting very, very good.

Very good point. Plus McLemore sleeps too often in the wing. He can't be successful and do that in the NBA.

Re: Hendo Vs McLemore
I don't see McLemore as someone who will take charge and anoint himself the "go-to guy". But I can see that he would have the kind of teammates, especially Kemba who would help him realize that he has to shoot the ball more and I think the coach will create opportunities for him. If he gets the playing time (which he should in Charlotte) and the right support, he's going to be a 20 PPG guy imo. That's more valuable than Hendo who seems to have topped out. But Hendo would make a great 6th man and I'd like to keep him. And once again my issue is this roster does not have one single guy that if left open he can really hurt you. McLemore would be that guy with his range. I mean with MKG defenses basically dare him to shoot it. We need someone in the backcourt to make up for that as we can't build an offense short handed in the back court.

Re: Hendo Vs McLemore
McLemore would bring the ability to put up points in a hurry, something we struggle to do. Down 9 with 4 minutes left in the game is a tough position for us to come back from. With McLemore he brings the ability to knock down deep shots in a hurry and before you know it is a one possession game after just two shots....
Also, three point shooters can break open leads, Its tough for us to build and hold leads when we are only hitting 4 or 5 threes on a good night.... McLemore would be able to do that by himself with minutes.

Sorry Hendo, I'm going McLemore here. Same production, half the price.

Hendo easily. Better question is Hendo vs. Oladipo. It's closer but I still say Hendo.

Re: Hendo Vs McLemore
I like Hendo and I'm not a McLemore fanboi but went with McL. Hendo took so long to find something resembling a 3 pt shot and that really irks me. His progress has just been too little, too late for me. I'd prefer to keep both if Hendo can be signed to a reasonable contract but if not, I'd roll the dice on the rookie. He reminds me of Vince Carter a little.

Just curious: Do you know how many SG's averaged 20ppg or more last season?
In fact, do you know how many players league wide averaged 20ppg or more last season?
