Would you help start a bidding war?

Post#1 » by radtech » Sat Jun 22, 2013 8:48 pm

Say HOU calls you about a trade that nets you Omer Asik, Jeremy Lin, and Thomas Robinson and you accept the deal and turn around and call DAL to say gives us Shawn Marion and the 13th pick. Causing both Texas teams to have enough cap space to battle it out for Howard and Paul. Would you do it? And if Paul leaves now you have Lin as a possible replacement for the Clippers and thus another trade happens for a future pick. Since Marion is a valuable vet he can be traded as well to a playoff team like the Blazers who have no depth on their bench whatsoever for another future pick.

You add two starters in Asik and Robinson and still have your draft pick plus the 13th pick and future picks from the Clippers and the Blazers.

Holy hypothetical Batman!

You're going to have to expand on what these proposed deals actually are before I can make a reasonable decision on them one way or the other.

What do we trade to get Asik, Lin, and Robinson? What do we trade to get Marion and the 13? What would we trade Lin to the clippers for?

It would probably depend on who we would have to give up, but all things being equal, I like to wreak havoc.

Both teams want cap space and are willing to do anything. You can give up future picks from both the Blazers and the Clips to HOU and DAL. As soon as 1 team makes a deal the other will be more desperate not wanting to miss out on Howard and Paul.

We can't get the 13 with Marion because of the fact we have to wait till FA to have the cap room for Marion right?

We are not the only team who can accommodate Houston or Dallas, therefore either one of those teams needs to just find one team other than us which shouldn't be too hard.

However, if we wait for HOU or DAL to make their move with another hypothetical team in a situation similar to ours, we are left with one or the other cornered into a state of greater urgency, having one less destination to park salary.

So a simpler solution would be to simply wait out one or the other. The Clips will keep Bledsoe as a hedge against Paul following Howard to the Mavs or Rockets. That's the whole reason why he was removed from the Doc Rivers talks. So Lin has no value to them and they have enough resources to not get caught in a pinch.

I'm only interested in Robinson and Dallas' pick..

Come on, man, where's the spirit? Don't you want to help start a bidding war? Think of how awesome would that be!! All we have to do is sacrifice for the greater good and clog our payroll with Asik's and Lin's contracts.
