There's absolutely no chance the Spurs re-sign him, or rather, that he re-signs with the Spurs. He has completely fallen out of the rotation, and his agent really pushed for him to be traded at the deadline. He's definitely going to be a free agent, and he'll sign with another team this season where he'll hopefully get more consistent playing time and perhaps more money. But that's my question... how much money is he going to cost?

Our only realistic shot at signing Blair is if he's willing to sign for $2 million/year or less. Due to his unique knee injury situation, and his recent lack of playing time, I think it's posssssible that we could pick him up for about $2 million/year, but that might be wishful thinking.

What do you guys think his value is? Not necessarily what he's worth, but what he's going to get as a free agent this summer.

Good question - keeping in mind that if we sign Webster, the chances are iffy that we'll have enough left of the MLE to afford Blair - but re-signing Webster is no automatic thing if Porter goes 3rd - which is still the most likely option, imo. The other free agent PF that I'd like the Wiz to consider is Brandan Wright - they're kinda like the Abbott & Costello (or Laurel & Hardy) of PF's - 1 is short and stumpy - the other tall and lanky. I suspect Blair goes a little cheaper than Wright - based on how consistent Wright has been. Otoh, Wright is likely seen as someone who can't handle major minutes. Maybe there are lingering questions about Blair's mysterious ACL, but that always seemed hokie to me since he never had a problem with it - as far as I know.

I drove the Blair bus in the past. I have to look at his years in SA a lot closer before I can say what I think he's worth now to the Wizards. His defense and some +/- stuff has not been compelling. Splitter rebounding as well and the Spurs a win away from the title make me see Blair less favorably.

Here is a link to a terrific read on why the Spurs were better without Blair. :(

http://www.poundingtherock.com/2012/4/1 ... tim-duncan

But OTOH Blair has a filthy good playoff career playoff PER. He had a 20/20 (or was it a 30/20 game?) as a rookie. He was a BEAST who I rated ahead of Blake Griffin in NCAAs (ironically for his rebounds, defense. and winning profile from HS and international junior play). Blair has at time very much looked like the player I said he would be prior to his draft.

Right now I think he's better bigger--he's lost weight. I believe Brandan Wright can supply what the Wizards need maybe better overall. I love Greg Smith's game. But Blair can definitely improve the Wizards in the right capacity at the right price.

I'm not saying Blair is going to be a stud or anything, I just think he's a very respectable backup big man, and this team would greatly benefit by adding a 5th big man to the mix of Nene, Okafor, Booker, and Seraphin. I don't trust Singleton or Vesely, and when Nene and Booker inevitably get hurt, I want to have better depth so we can avoid trotting out Singleton and Vesely, who will absolutely kill our productivity whenever they're in the game.

And with the presumption that we'd only be able to afford Blair if he signed for about $2 million, he'd be an incredible bargain at that price, so I'd be all in on that. I agree with you on Brandan Wright. That kid has some serious talent. But I have a feeling that he's going to be very difficult to pry away from Dallas, especially if all we have to lure him away is what's left of the MLE after re-signing Webster. Wright said publicly he wants to return to Dallas already, so I assume they'll give him a fair deal once they strike out on the Howard and Paul sweepstakes.

I expected a lot from Jones when he came out of South Florida. He was an explosive scorer who I expected would be a good scorer in the NBA. It has not happened.

http://www.basketball-reference.com/pla ... sdo02.html

Jones has not managed to shoot better than .397 FG. Jones is a career .366 FG shooter. His career 3PT is like John Wall's 3-42 season, 2-21, .095 3PT.

Dallas had a lot of veterans playing in front of Dominique Jones. He was a rookie when JJ Barea, Jason Terry, Jason Kidd, and DeShawn Stevenson beat the Heat in the NBA Finals. Jones is not the only G who did not develop as well as I thought he would. Rod Beaubois is another.

Maybe he was under a lot of pressure as a Dallas Maverick but Dominique did not even shoot well in D-League. His .419 FG and .314 3PT are not impressive.

http://www.basketball-reference.com/nbd ... do01d.html

Sure he's worth a tryout. Don't expect him to be very good.

Jamison makes sense because this team has strong defenders. On top of that he's a class act, and a genuine, humble man. He is a leader, and one with exemplary character. I appreciate the times he spoke with me when he attended Pete Newell's Big Man Camp.

Jamison works hard on his game. He's a stretch four who can rebound. His great offense overshadows his defensive weaknesses. Antawn rebounds well enough that he's very rarely a liability overall, in spite of his defense.

This is a new era for the Wizards. The guys he may not have cared for are no longer Wizards. Except for EG, that is. I think gun gate was not handled well.... OTOH, Jamison's only all star appearance and his 32/10 playoff run came thanks to the Wizards. Ernie acquired Antawn. Maybe they are not on bad terms. Regardless, DC loved Jamison and he could retire a Wizard after a couple playoff runs.

I would love to see him back because he can still shoot it. He's the type player Wall asked for.

I think Jamson should consider accepting a veteran minimum deal for one season. Take one for the team and REALLY become a leader in what will be a playoff run.

I don't have a problem with signing him for the LLE or vet minimum for just 1-year. We do need a stretch four and if we don't get one in the draft, we'll need to sign one cheaply. Cheap players are typically either over-the-hill vets or project youngsters. Given the general inexperience of the PF's currently on the roster, it makes more sense for us to add an over-the-hill vet. Jamison fits perfectly in that regard.

That said, we shouldn't overestimate what he will provide. At this point in his career, Jamison is an embarrassingly bad defender. He simply can't stay on the court for heavy minutes without being exploited. We can't play him when the other team has an offensively capable PF. I think he can still be useful as long as he is matched up against backups or if he is used as a floor spreader in situational offensive substitutions.

I would sign him any way for the vet min, I mean we need depth and if Jammison is one of the last guys on your bench thats a pretty go situation to have.

I think there are much bigger priorities, but Jamison at the vet minimum could be good for both parties. For Jamison the wizards in a lot of ways seem like they are more promising than the lakers. Also going back to the place if the peak of his career probably has some appeal.
I think the pluses for the wizards have been covered pretty well.
The only downside would be it might discourage younger minimum salary players, but productive bigs command far more than minimum salary.

NO NO NO!!! Please NO! A terrible idea. The last thing I want is "The Great Leader of Men" back in the locker room.

Jamison was one of the worst defenders in the game during his time in DC, it's only gotten worse sense he's left. When he's in the game, the best coaches attack him relentlessly.

He's a dog, he's always mailed it in defensively. He's incredibly skilled at faking defensive effort. His teams never win anything because he only plays one side of the court.

I hated him in DC. I hated when Ernie initially sacrificed a top 5 pick for him. I hated how loved he became when it was incredibly undeserved. I was only happy when he got sent to Cleveland to muck up their Championship hopes (which he did... because he still refused to defend anyone when he got there).

It would make me sick to my stomach if Jamison retired a Wizard. Since when do teams retire career losers?

I think signing Jamison makes some sense, unless we draft a big man at 38, or if we sign a big man in free agency. Assuming we re-sign Webster with the majority of the MLE, there's not going to be much money left over to sign a big man, unless we're talking about the likes of Cole Aldrich. Still, I understand if people would rather take a flyer on a young, but raw, big man and hope for the best. But if we strike out on all of the potential young bigs we had our eyes on, then I'm fine with signing Jamison on a 1 year vet. min. deal like he got this last season. We might as well wait until the end of July/August to pick him up though, just in case we can land a player with more long-term upside. Because Jamison will only be a rental, we all know that. But if the choice becomes 1 year of Jamison or staying put with what we've got, then I'd rather see Jamison getting minutes off the bench than Singleton and Vesely.

Even I wouldn't have any interest in Jamison at this point. He's 37 and obviously declining.

Maybe if we're trying for that elusive 9th seed toward the end of next season, sign him.

There are not a lot of good quality back up guards on the market this year that we can afford. If the Spurs cut mill's i would go right after him in a heart beat.

Mills exercised his player option today unfortunately, so he's back with the Spurs. I would have liked to add Mills as well. I think we just stick it out with AJ Price and maybe a rookie.

Dat, these players have similar career Win Shares through 15 seasons. (Similarity scores are at the bottom)

Antawn Jamison, AC Green, PJ Brown, Clifford Robinson, Terry Cummings, Rashard Lewis, Charles Oakley, Don Nelson, Dennis Rodman, Bobby Dandridge.

Antawn's WS/48 for last season: .126. (.100 is average)

http://www.basketball-reference.com/pla ... san01.html

Jamison's Production By Position per-48 at PF for LAL was +2.2 PER and +2.4 points.

http://www.basketball-reference.com/pla ... elog/2013/

His best game was 33 and 12 against Denver. He had a few other double doubles. His worst games were against the Spurs in the playoffs. Jamison was terrible all four games.

Dat, we both know his defense is bad. I recall his 32 /10 playoffs (PER 26) and two all star games in DC. Antawn is at the Juwan Howard with Miami stage of his career--he can be a coach on the floor for the minimum.

How can you be a coach on the floor when your defensive effort throughout your entire career has been absolutely terrible? Who would take him seriously. I don't think the Lakers or Cavs organizations saw a great teammate or leader. Both seem to have no problem letting him go.

I think that notion that he's some great leader or mentor is plain nonsense.

You recall a 32/10 playoff series were the Wizards got swept in 4. Good times, eh?

Bad defensive effort unfortunately isn't something that's statistically measured, but there's a good reason why his teams have historically never won anything.
