Exactly. The way I look at it is that you're taking a gamble on everyone. Yes, you might have a guy at 5, 10, 15 or 25 that becomes a superstar at random, but right now, no way to predict. Noel is the type of player that is the rarest of the bunch, so you have to go with him if he's checked out by doctors.
defensive player with serious offensive deficiencies. Why is that so rare?
I guess it's all in expectations and what you want him to do. He shot 60% last year. He's terrible at FTs, we know how that goes, but that didn't stop us from playing Dwight. We already have a center that can hit the mid-range jumper. We could use noel to clean up, get put backs, and use a little hook shot. He's very good when sort of floating around doing whatever, cleaning things up. Let's say Noel takes what he did in college and does it in the NBA. How many of those guys are there in the NBA? Double doubles, lock down the paint, leading the league in blocks, and getting a couple steals a night. Add to that the fact that we have Vuc, a guy who needs someone like Noel, a roamer, to shore up the defense. It's a great fit if he's cleared.
