Exactly. The way I look at it is that you're taking a gamble on everyone. Yes, you might have a guy at 5, 10, 15 or 25 that becomes a superstar at random, but right now, no way to predict. Noel is the type of player that is the rarest of the bunch, so you have to go with him if he's checked out by doctors.

defensive player with serious offensive deficiencies. Why is that so rare?

I guess it's all in expectations and what you want him to do. He shot 60% last year. He's terrible at FTs, we know how that goes, but that didn't stop us from playing Dwight. We already have a center that can hit the mid-range jumper. We could use noel to clean up, get put backs, and use a little hook shot. He's very good when sort of floating around doing whatever, cleaning things up. Let's say Noel takes what he did in college and does it in the NBA. How many of those guys are there in the NBA? Double doubles, lock down the paint, leading the league in blocks, and getting a couple steals a night. Add to that the fact that we have Vuc, a guy who needs someone like Noel, a roamer, to shore up the defense. It's a great fit if he's cleared.

I love how people downgrade him to just being "a defensive player" like he is a common level defensive player. The guy has elite defensive impact on the defensive end.

Defensively, he is the equivalent to a 20-25ppg "offensive guy.

nope. I still think he can be a solid starter (if he fixes his attitude) but I never bought into the star hype. I just didn't see it from the high school videos I saw of him.

i don't think his offense is as bad as people make it out to be, either. he's very raw, but he's still able to use his athleticism to get by a lot of guys. he's got that Dwight-esque habit of using his athleticism to set up that running hook shot (which i hate), but do you think he'll be able to learn to slow it down in the post, work on his footwork and develop some Hakeem style spins and fakes into his arsenal?

(i've got to admit, i've always watched Hakeem and thought - why can't more guys do that? he makes it look so easy)

I would be very excited about adding Noel to team. Elite help defenders with size are very valuable.

I don't see any upside in his offense. He will be able to average 10-12 ppg just off of his activity, movement and putbacks + transition.

I cant see him EVER being somebody you would actually design a playcall for. The only thing that should be "called" for him would be lobs off of pick and rolls.

Tyson Chandler/Chris Andersen is his ceiling offensively IMO. He will get by strictly off of quickness and athleticism. ANY dream of him developing into any sort of offensive skilled player remove them from your head, If we draft him that is NOT what he is being drafted for.

This is what is reasonable to expect. P&R Lobs, Finding holes in the paint for drop off passes for athletic dunks, Putback slams, and points in transition by running ahead of his man. A great P&R PG (Like Burke type) would be his best friend.

Rumor roundup for Sunday:

1) Cavs not likely to trade 1st pick."
2) Cavs and Mavs deal for the 13th pick has been exaggerated by Sheridan Hoops, no surprise. Word is no deal has been discussed.
3) Big Z and his team are making a big push to draft Len
4) Cavs are choosing been Len, Noel, McLemore, Bennett, and Porter
5) Cleveland Clinic doctor that checked out Noel for the Cavs said that the growth plate issue Noel suffered in high school is relatively common in youngsters and likely did not lead to the torn ligament he suffered last season.
6) The Cavs draft could hinge on free agent Greg Oden, who has shown interest in joining their team.

CJ sounds like a coach in the Simmons/Rose interview.

Chandler was drafted #2 in 2001 but statistically I don't think even Noel could be that poor. He averaged like 3 shots a game. He'll have more blocks than Chandler ever did and should be able to rebound better. He'll also get more steals. I think he's more active offensively, so he'll likely get more tipins and have a higher FG% than Chandler ever did. I'd say 12PPG, 12 RPG, 3BPG, 1.5 STL is his ceiling.

I'm only talking about his offensive game/skillset. He will definitely average more blocks (Chandler doesn't actually block a whole lot of shots). When I say Chandler is his ceiling offensively, I mean the things Chandler does to get his points is what I expect to see from Noel, Nothing more than Chandler, Nothing less then Chandler.

I've been trying the last couple of days. Just sucks cause there's next to no news out of Orlando and Cavs, Suns, and Kings are just pumping out stuff day and night.

Doc going to the Clippers. They've offered a future 1st round pick. Details emerging. Bledsoe to Orlando still has legs.

Yeah, just read the news too .. I think it's best for him that this deal happens, cause I don't think he has a future in Boston after all this ..
