Official Off-Season Trade/Rumor Thread

Post#1 » by GameTime_3 » Mon Jun 24, 2013 1:49 am

Post all rumors, random trade ideas & possible moves here.

Key faces that could be on trade block:

Joel 3.7 Million, 2yr left
Miller 5.8 Million, 2yr left
Chalmers 4 million, 1 yr left
Norris Cole 800K, 2 yr left

Riley will need to bring some youth or new faces in the next 2 years as the CBA changes and role players retire(Ray, Shane, UD) to add to the BIG 3.

Here are a few trade ideas;

Cole & Joel + Picks for Robin Lopez

-NO gets a young cheap PG, a backup center & Davis gets more minutes.
-Miami saves the amnesty for MM & picks up and actual center which will be needed if Bird leaves

2nd Trade Idea

Joel & MM for Drew Gooden
-Bucks get 2 players
-Miami gets back a role player & saves Arison about 8 million in money

I wouldn't trade away Cole.

I'd ship out Joel/MM somehow

Yup. We need Cole to save us from lightning quick pgs that Rio can't guard since Lebron won't do it for 48 minutes

In the next 2 years, Riley will have to trade Cole or Chalmers. Either this year or next Riley will package one with a contract he needs to get rid of.

Plus Cole might need to take Rio's spot if gets more money in 2014. And Cole is developing, few years more could be a real nice players.

Can we just amnesty Joel is we can't find a trade for him that doesn't bring back salary. Miller at least has something to give the team, and he showed in during the Finals. With the Birdman, Joel has been rendered useless, as he gives everything Joel has. and more.

EDIT: Why do we need the poor man's Birdman, when he have the real thing?

Interesting, depends on who thrives for us in the upcoming years - I personally see Cole being the better PG just my opinion.

It makes no sense to amnesty anyone now. The time to amnesty was Miller before.

Now it doesn't improve the team, just saves Arison some luxury tax and we would have to replace Miller/Anthony with a minimum guy.

Trading/Amensty Joel saves Arison 8 million. Trading/Amesty MM saves Arison about 10 million; That's something.

As of now, the kux bill for next season is looking like 50million dollars. Last season the lux tax bill was 13million dollars.

The trade part only saves that much if another team will trade pure cap space for either guy with two years left on the contract (both will opt-in). That will NOT happen.

The amnesty part is exactly what I said. Doesn't improve the team just saves Arison cash. I believe your numbers are off though because even if amnestied you have to pay the actual salary. You only save the luxury tax part.

My understand and I could be wrong is the players entire salary is removed from the cap. We pay the contract but he doesn't factor in the cap, which would save Arison the figures above.

Yep, if we amnesty joel, micky would still have to pay him the 8mil remaning on his contract, but it would save him 6mil in tax this season.

I think micky would have an issues paying someone to play for someone else.

^Joel Anthony playing for someone else could help the HEAT. One thing people also forget is, if we Amnesty MM, I could see a few team putting in a bid for 2 or 3 million. Joel would go right to free agency. Joel has a great agent, he cashed in all his chips at the perfect time.

It is removed from the cap but you still have to pay him. So you only save the luxury tax part.

I'm not sure what our luxury tax multiplier would be for next season but Joel makes 3.75 mil. We still have to pay that so no saving there. What we would save is whatever our luxury tax multiplier was times that 3.75. I think its 1 (I could be wrong) so that would be 3.75 saved only. Owners spend almost that much buying late first rounders.

Joel or Miller is a better bet to help the team than a random late first round pick, especially since we can still buy the pick. Its not an either/or scenario, we can do both.

Plus if we amnesty them we can't use them as expiring contracts in trades next year. That's when they will have value. We'd be able to package them as expirings (when people would actually want them) for a guy making like 10-12 million. Or add in Chalmers for a near max guy.

It really makes no sense to amnesty either guy now. It hurts the team and hurts our longterm plan. I know this team wants to turn all those expirings into another big time player since its basically our only chance to get a non-minimum guy.

I just don't see micky as someone who will pay a player to play for someone else. A philosophical issue, i would be very surprised.

How would it save him 6 million in tax? Wouldn't it save 3.75 in tax? Or are we in the repeater tax already?

we are non repeater, but we would pay the higher rate of $2.50 per dollar over the lux line because we will be $10,000,000-14,999,999 over the tax line.

Is Brook Lopez a better fit than the Birdman???

I thought Miami should rather sign the Birdman than Lopez. WE already see the result with the Birdman. If there's a move the Heat should make this off-season, is to clear salaries.

Return to Miami Heat
