Fuel to the referee fiasco : Miami breaks record with fewest

Post#1 » by Grumpy Heat Fan » Mon Jun 24, 2013 12:00 pm

In all of NBA playoff history, no team has ever attempted fewer free throws in a seven-game series than Miami’s 118 against San Antonio.

This is not just the NBA Finals.

This is, IN PLAYOFF HISTORY. As in, every single 7 game playoff series ever played in the history of the NBA

Spurs shot 158 FT's, a +40 free throw advantage.

Yep. David Stern really wanted us to lose for some reason.

I get the feeling most refs are getting sick of the flopping...
I've been a big advocate of this team manning up and not flopping so much
i understand they do it to get fouls called but i think its starting to have the opposite effect
they've already shown they can win without the whistle, so why not abandon flopping altogether and just focus on getting back on D etc etc.

All you can do is laugh. I still have friends here in NY telling me "Stern gave the Heat game 6". Like how in the **** does that thought even exist in ones head? Yeah, he gave it to us 100%. His whole strategy was to have us down 5 with 28 seconds left and to count on a miracle 3 to bring it to OT. Thanks Stern for making that happen.

Agree. I HATE the flopping on our team. It's straight up embarrassing. And it makes the referees look unfavorably upon us.

And honestly, I don't blame other fans for hating LeBron when he flops. He needs to stop it.

OT but The Last of Us is simply an amazing game

Joe, Sarah, and Ellie are adorable

But really, Lebron's comment about flopping really hurt us in the POs

Yeah I posted a thread during the playoffs at how garbage the officiating was against us, I swear David Stern's last involvement in the NBA he wanted to break up the big 3 so that the ratings would drop when he left, and then everyone would remember him for the golden time of NBA basketball because 'look at what happened to the ratings the year he left'.

I wonder if Mickey Arison taking the mike to thank Stern was a very very subtle f you.

I know Arison had some beef with Stern during the lockout (when the owners that care about winning got screwed by those who only care about profits). IIRC he also got fined a pretty hefty amount. So him pissing in Stern's soup for all the world to see after a back 2 back would be totally warranted.

Or maybe he's just above petty revenge. But I wouldn't be. :-D

Our team didn't flop that much this post season compared to last. Flopping can go along way imo. I don't support flopping at all but I think most of it came because players aren't getting the calls that they thought they deserved...

I'm honestly still puzzled how guys like Jimmy Butler, Roy Hibbert & Kawi Leonard got more fouls called for them than Wade & LeBron combined...

I think the leauge just didnt want to be blamed for our win. I think Stern figures we are strong enough to overcome it. But we were not delusional the calls just were not coming for the Heat and it was a united approach from all the refs.

I believe the other team had more FTs than us in every series except Milwaukee. I think the Pacers series was the worst, we could not buy a freaking call.

Flopping or no flopping we don't get obvious calls.

Funnily enough, it's still "the refs helped Miami!"

So I guess all the talks of "The refs along with David Stern gift-wrapped the championship for Miami" goes out the window with that factoid...

But......but...

There's nothing.

Only 3 teams in the last 20 years won the Finals despite being outshot at the line. Kobe, LeBron and MJ too.

In 1991 Chicago won 4-1 despite getting outshot by ~50FTs. So no record there. But I do think FTA are about as good a predictor as there is for who won the Finals.
