I hope he recovers but after all that he's been through, I don't think he should return to basketball. And I'm not just saying that because he's an overpaid PF who only shoots 3s and cause we have about 4 PFs on the roster, I'm also saying that due to health reasons.

His condition was first reported on September 20, 2012 He played his last game in early April 2012. Wonder if the Suns have to wait until September to get a medical waiver.

I think it is too risky for him to play again. This is a no brainer with him having kids and all. He's sharp enough to be a TV analyst or get into coaching.

“I’m excited for the Suns regardless of what happens and for Ryan to put his ideas on the court,” Frye said. “I feel a part of it and he said he has a part for me.”

That part of the article really stuck out to me. The fact that he said "regardless of what happens" shows some doubt there, and a possibility that he is done. I just dont remember a player throwing that kind of doubt in a statement, when he really didnt have to.

Please Frye just retire. We don't want your overpaid contract on this roster and I especially don't wanna watch a 6'11 player that just camps out at the 3 pt line all game. It's bad enough that you corrupted Morris with your ways and turned him into another version of you.

I don't want that. Hope he'll be cleared to play again. He's a solid vet and to me he is far from being overpaid. He's a good presence to have on the floor and locker room. Anyway, if he has to retire I'll be sad for him and for us even if somehow he can land a job in our front office or maybe as a color analyst in local TV. I'd be surprised to see McDonough trading him away if he can play again, since he emphasizes the importance to have better shooters on the team, especially 3pts shooter.

Agreed. Frye's game is much more than camping at the 3. Its amazing how some posters judge players so inaccurately, just a caricature of reality.

Putting up 10 pts and 6 boards a game on 41% shooting is worth $6M/season?

He's a good locker room guy and everything but don't let that get in the way of the fact which remains that Frye is overpaid. He's an injury prone stretch 4 who pretty much shoots mostly 3s.

It's amazing how some posters judge so inaccurately just because a player seems very nice and social, that doesn't make him worth his contract. It's a caricature of reality.

And we have shooters in Dudley/Kieff/Wes/probably #5 etc

Right now I would say we need a guy who can bang in the post than yet another big man that's primarily a 3pt shooter.

I don't think i'm biaised. Being nice and social has nothing to do with his abilities as a player. And i'm not sure it's accurate to say that Frye only shoots 3 for a living. It's his forte and he had a tendency to just do that at the beginning of his tenure in the valley but his game has expanded after. He made progress in post defense and tried to develop his offense too by getting close to the basket. I'm not saying he's Shaq-esque but he's not a tall Steve Kerr anymore.

He's made progress in his defense but he's still an average defender at best.

And his post game or close to the basket game relies on him putting up jump hooks or fading away on guards who are much shorter than him. Not impressed.

I'm not saying Frye is a bad player. He's a decent role player but he's not worth his current contract IMO. He makes more than Dudley and almost the same as Dragic, that itself is laughable

Channing had a decent season with us last season (or two seasons ago?) and hit the three at a good clip. Very useful option. He was rather inconsistent, and maybe this absence from the court will make it even worse.

I hate to talk about trading a guy like him. But we really don't have a need for him anymore, IMO. I think if he's able to start the year, he'd be a perfect trade asset at the deadline to a contender. The only issue is his contract is a bit high.

Damn. Maybe we can dump him with Gortat when we (hopefully) trade him.

He hasn't played in a year, I doubt we would get much in return in a trade.
