Furkan A
Any word if we may see Furkan Aldemir in a Rockets uniform next season?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Furkan_Aldemir
He already has one of the best nicknames in the NBA (once he joins). Could he be a guy who could help the Rockets out? Maybe a late-season addition similar to Patrick Beverley?

Daryl Morey talked to a group of season ticket holders about 3 weeks ago, and he said that the chances that we bring Furkan Aldemir over this off-season are alot better than the chances we bring Llull over. Interpret that how ever you like.
My guess: We will see Furkan Aldemir in a Rockets uniform pretty soon.

Re: Furkan A
I think I read a while ago there was a good chance we bring him over. His game supposedly resembles a smaller Asik, a rebounding force that's active defensively. I don't know how much of that is true, but his rebounding rate from the stats I saw was pretty insane. And it seems to be that rebounding is always the skill that translates the most to the NBA. That could be a nice addition if he's not a total liability on offense like TRob was. If anything, he should hopefully turn into another furkan asset!

Re: Furkan A
I think he will be something like a Tiago Splitter. A decent rebounder but nothing to brag about, and a decent defender but gives up position a little too easily sometimes.
Personally I think Terence Jones has the potential to be a better back-up center in the NBA than Aldemir does. Jones has the same flaws, but physically he's a lot bigger, stronger, and is a much better rim protector.

i'm a turkish galatasaray fan. I watched most of his plays. I can't say he's one of the key player in gala roster. He is developing every season but i dont see in him an nba quality player. He is athletic and good rebounder but needs to improve both his defence and offense. I think he will spend a couple of years in euroleague, prove himself, gain experience then take a chance in nba.

Re: Furkan A
Thank you for the insight, lordabbas! Down the road as he improves can you give us a player in the NBA who's game he is comparable to?

Re: Furkan A
Hi Rockets board. I have been watching him for several years and here is my notes..
Offensive skills:
Passing: Adequate. Not taking too much risks and not a turnover-prone. Improvable.
Catch: He is great at catching. He has good eye-hand coordination.
Dribble: One of the skill he must work on. Can not put the ball on the floor confidently. But again, not a turnover-prone.
Shoot: Does not have mid-range game. Also he is terrible at the line. He is just like Asik. He has good shooting form but the problem is basically mental. He will overcome I believe.
Screen: Just like Asik.
Finishing: He is good at finishing at the rim. I think 2012-2013 Birdman is good example to illustrate his finishing skills around the rim.
Post: Very limited.
To sum up his offensive skills, he is a catch and finish player on the offense. Can crash offensive boards. Needs to improve his handling, dribbling and shooting. He will bring the same things with Omer in terms of offensively but with better finishing skills and without fumbling passes.
NBA Comparison (Offensively)
Best Case: Paul Millsap (If he can improve his dribbling and shooting skills a lot)
Probably: Kris Humphries (His late (09-10 / 11-12) career progress seems comparable with Furkan. Furkan has already better basketball knowledge and higher basketball IQ.)
Worst: Jeff Foster
Deffensive Skills:
He is not a reactive defender like Ibaka or Sanders. He is a pro-active defender like Asik, Marc Gasol and Roy Hibbert. He takes position before the threat occurs. Thus, I do not think his block numbers will be great but he will be effective for team defense. In addition, he is great at boxout and rebounding. That's why he is called Asik-Lite.
He does not jump straight up right now but he is capable to learn quickly. He will get into foul problem quickly in his early career. Also, his post defense is not adequate right now. He has a strong frame but is not enough to fight with strong NBA centers. Thus, he needs to bulk up and work for post defense. After that, he could be a good post defender.
The best comparison for Furkan (defensively) is Omer Asik - Lite.
To conclude, I think Furkan is ready for NBA basketball right now and each year he will spend in Europe will be loss for him. He will not develop both phsically and technically in Europe. NBA is better for development. He could be good contributor on rookie contract in 10-15 minutes. What you will see on the court is something between rookie Paul Millsap - Tyler Hansbrough (not that active). Hustle plays, rebounds, defense. If thickness of his skin is comparable to Omer Asik too, then you will see lots of blood also. I hope to see him in Rockets uniform soon. Sorry for my English

He signed with Galatasaray for 4 years in June 2011. As fas as I know, his contract includes special clause that allows him to opt out after the first 2 years of his contract only if he leaves Gala for an NBA team to play. So, if the Rockets want to bring him for next season and work out a deal, his contract can be terminated easily.
