Mully Vs Len

Post#1 » by BigSlam » Tue Jun 25, 2013 1:10 am

Existing Player Vs Potential Player.

Based on what Cho said (we should draft BPA regardless of position) I thought this might be interesting. I'll make several of these over the next week.

Who would you choose to move forward with as a Bobcats player and why?

I just can't come around on Mully. At least Len has shown a willingness to work in the post every now and then.

its Len for sure

but i cant help imagining a world where 27-28 year old Mullens still in his athletic prime, actually understands the game of basketball and how to use his gifts to their max. he could be such a beast....

Byron Mullens is as good as gone in Charlotte with a $3 million qualifying offer unless they aren't able to land any quality free agent bigs at reasonable prices this offseason. I'll just go with Alex Len. It's a fairly easy assessment

i want to say just let Mully go...but we just aren't in a position to let a young 7'1 guy with ridiculously soft touch, great athleticism, great work ethic, and dashing looks go over 3 million dollars. even at that price he's a good 3rd string C option

something in me just feels like we would one day regret letting Mullens go :x i hate that i feel that way. if he had tyrus personality it would be one thing but the kid clearly works hard and actually cares which is more than you can say for a lot of players, especially on our roster recently

Len, pretty easily.

I still hold out plenty of hope for Mullens in hopes that his post-all-star mega-slump was a result of his ankle injury. Mike Dunlap's "no midrange, all 3s" mentality definitely didn't help Mully very much either. I hope we do bring Mully back even if we retain all our other bigs and draft big. Clifford just needs to park Mully's ass in the paint and tell him he's a center, not a shooting guard. The dude has plenty of talent, but needs playing time and proper coaching, a combination he's never had in the NBA.

Len, but I don't think there is anyway we don't pick up Mullens QO

Went Len but think we should keep Mully on the QO.

It would be 4.5 million because he recorded so many minutes last year. That's pricey for a man child with poor shot selection and horrible bbiq.

I think we'll regret it too. We gave away Tyson Chandler for what amounted to cap space, and then he goes and wins DPOTY.

I'm not saying Mully will do *that*, but I'm in the minority in that I believe he can still tap his potential. There's at least enough of a chance of that to where we ought to keep him if we're not overpaying.

i guarantee we will never be able to find a center that could give us a game like this at 4.5 million dollar pricetag in free agency

you could also take a video of his worst game and say the same thing

Not that pricey at all for a 7 footer with decent athleticism and a decent offensive game. Yeah he plays like an idiot sometimes, but he's worth that.

When you think about it, scrubs like DeJuan Blair and Jason Maxiell are likely to make that much on the open market. Give me Mullens' potential over those guys.

I could easily see a team offering him a longer contract then his QO though...

I would not want to risk overpaying him, and him becoming another Tyrus on the bench.

I would wait and see who we take in draft, then see what we can do with a few big names in free agency, but if its a situation where a team like Detroit or Portland offers him more than his QO, then we just let him be somebody elses problem

Len sucks. We rail against Mullens' inconsistency but Len is arguably the most inconsistent player in this draft. Has like 3 good games against Duke and Kentucky and several blah games against tiny schools. Can't average 10 boards, pathetically bad steal rate, and can't move anybody around. Price being equal, I'd go Mullens.

Mully is in a bad position at this point. We've seen too much of him to the point that we're disgusted with his name and are quite biased. Not saying that he's better than Len (I also voted for Len), but 17-1 is a bigger difference than it should be.

When Mully's 3 pt shot is falling and he is rebounding he looks like an all-star. He can be a good rebounder when he's paying attention. I feel like the end of the season was an aberration, with Mully done in by injury and a desire by mgmt to hide his upside. He was an oddly effective pairing with McBob. However, there were way too many times when Mully stood and watched the other team grab rebounds around him. Stood and watched the other team drive right by. It was maddening and disgusting to watch at times. Is he lazy or stupid? I can forgive lack of talent but not lack of effort.

Len has good size & agility, good hands, can run the court, has a decent mid-range shot, can do step throughs, spins, up and unders, can defend the p&r, is a good passer. The main knock against him seems to be he gets pushed off the block, but he just turned 20 last week. He seems more concerned about his team winning than shining individually.

I know we won't ever see Len stand there and watch the other team drive by or rebound without trying to prevent it. I don't care if Mully breaks out elsewhere, if he won't play defense, I don't want him here.

I take Len without hesitation. But I hope we keep Mully as a solid backup. But Len has so much higher a ceiling than Mully, the answer is clear for me.

Mullens is really a terrible, terrible basketball player. Even when his shots are falling, they're awful shots. Contested threes early in the shot-clock, shots that you can get anytime. He wastes his size advantage on the perimeter playing like a guard.

It's Len without hesistation. I doubt Mullens gets an offer worth more than his QO in free agency.
