The Victor Oladipo Thread

Lawrence Frank was effusive in his praise of Oladipo and said that he'd be a great fit for us. This was from some NBA draft special on CBS sports channel. Wally Szcerbiak was a hater though, said he was a glorified role player and his ceiling was Tony Allen at best.

I'm with Wally on this one. I think that's a little harsh, but Dipo is a lot closer to being Gerald Henderson than he to being Dwyane Wade. I'd personally stick with Hendo over Dipo.

The guys on NBA tv last night on the HQ show all like Oladipo. One of them said they would pick him one and the others all said he was a great guy and player.

I think the OKC Thunder are making a strong push to get into the top 3 so that they can draft Victor Oladipo. I think they'll be willing to trade the much talked about deal of Jeremy Lamb, Perry Jones III, and the 12th overall pick to do so

I don't think that sniffs top 3. Wolves can't seem to trade up with Williams and 9, and Williams has actually contributed on the NBA level unlike Lamb and PJ3.

I would do that deal for #4. Coming away from this draft with Lamb and Adams seems like an ideal scenario to me. OKC would get one of McLemore or Oladipo for sure.

It sniffs the top 3 if you're a team like the Cavs or Wizards desperate to trade out of your pick & looking for complimentary pieces moreso than a potential star that you don't believe is in this draft class. I know personally if I was a GM that I would entertain the OKC deal of Lamb-PJ3-#12 over the Chicago offer of Luol Deng

I have to agree with you here. To unproven mid to late round picks and another mid pick won't get you into the top three. The teams looking to move out are trying to win now and need a proven player.

Crean not a favorite of Oladipo comparison to D-Wade

It's not fair. It's also not accurate.

"I would never do that to Victor," said Indiana's Tom Crean, who coached Oladipo for the past three years and also coached Dwyane Wade at Marquette. "Dwyane is one of the best players in the history of the game."

Crean did say there are some similarities, especially in their personalities and approaches.

"They were both obsessed with getting better," Crean said. "Both are no-risk, no-maintenance."

Crean said Wade possessed more of an instinctive feel for passing the ball and had terrific patience. Oladipo has the mindset that he's going to get to the basket no matter what.

Both were terrific defenders, and Crean said each averaged exactly 12.2 deflections in their final season in college. Wade was better off the ball, while Oladipo thrives with on-ball defense.

But Wade is a natural scorer who has always possessed that mindset, while Oladipo is still transitioning into a scorer.

"It's not fair for Victor to walk in and have to feel the pressure of being compared to Dwyane," Crean said. "They are two different players."
