Josh Smith "top priority" for BOS

Post#1 » by D21 » Tue Jun 25, 2013 5:49 pm

Seems like BOS is trying to trade Pierce for nothing and then would make an offer for Smith.
What ATL can get from that ?
Because if it's just sign-and-trading Smith for nothing except a Traded Player Exception, maybe it can be better to think about it and already work with cap space (and let him sign where and when he wants by himself),
unless Ferry prefer to work over the cap and use this TPE and other trade/sign-&-trade to get new players...

...Boston must either trade Paul Pierce or decide to buy him out. They have until June 30 to inform Pierce of such a move...
If the Celtics can unload Pierce to a team with enough cap space to absorb his salary...
the plan is already in place. According to a source, the Celtics have a sign-and-trade offer ready for Atlanta forward Josh Smith that would be the top priority in free agency Link

BleacherReport that they are trying to Deal Paul Pierce right now, then they will pursue a S&T for Josh Smith, who could they possibly be trading to us?

Just saw this on the BOS board. Whether it means Ferry has an agreement with them or just that they're preparing to make an offer is unclear, although their fans think Smith's coming to BOS to make Rondo happy.

It's hard to see how we'd benefit from any of this. Draft pick?

Question: who - besides us - can even make such a deal with BOS? Who can just swallow Pierce's contract without having to send out salary? If the idea is to trade Pierce to someone who'll create a $15.3 million TPE for the C's, how're they gonna do it?

Point is, this may all be junk talk.

Avery Bradley and Jeff Green, please!!!
And if we can trade up for Burke or KCP, we're set in the backcourt for awhile.

Burke. Bradley. Lou. Jenkins. Green at SF. Sounds like a very "Spurs-like" rotation.

I dont think DA would admit that Green is a failure at this point (which would mean trading him). With Sullinger up in the air from his injury, I would imagine they are going to try an get more athletic, Green as a SF/SG, Rondo, Smith as a SF/PF, Sullinger at C, Bradley SG.

If they keep KG then
Rondo
AB
Green
Smith
KG

Would be a pretty scary Front Court if KG decides he will stay at C.

I see them trading us maybe Sullinger + future pick? But why trade a rook who is cheap on the books.

Dont really know any REAL piece they could offer besides MAYBE bradley. but we need big men, not more PG and SG

^I've heard KG only is willing to play for Rivers and wants no part of a rebuild...especially without Pierce.

Ferry clearly isn't sold on Teague, and a defensive guard like Bradley matches well with Lou and Jenkins who play no defense.

With only 3 players currently Under contract, seems like we need help across the board.

It would basically be Celtics trade Pierce to another team and get a TPE and more draft picks. Atlanta would then do a sign and trade Josh Smith for the TPE and pick(s). Who knows if these teams are actually talking. It's rumor season.

KG can pick who he plays for, but since the Clippers ARENT happening, and if he thinks he can still play ( which i think he can) hes going to choose a team thats a contender NOW. I cant see him retiring. He can go be RA and play a limited role for the Lakers, Bulls, etc. Quetion is what assets would Celts take back.

Im not really interested in bradley TBH. Hes worse then Teague on the offensive end.

So is Mario Chalmers. But if you surround him with the right talent at age 22, he can develop into an amazing role player.

We've seen him lockdown some top guards. He'd be a nice option to have in an epic playoff battle.

I'd love for us to get Bradley and Green. I also wouldn't mind getting some first round picks. These are the situations where Ferry needs to earn his paycheck

Boston isn't trading Green unless it's straight up for Smith which won't happen. They definitely won't package Bradley with Green.

Let's say Boston does trade Pierce which is what would have to happen in order for them to even have room for Smith. I think they would try to swap whatever they got for Pierce in exchange for Smith (large TPE, 2 early second rounders from Cleveland?) or they would just trade Bradley and a TPE.

Chalmers is a better PG than Teague, sorry.

He has much better offensive weapons than Teague. Teague cannot shoot a jump shot, Chalmers can.

Chalmers>Teague>Bradley

Bradleys ONLY strength is his defense. Hes a terrible ball handler and scorer.

Picks works, but Trade Exception + a player can't work, unless it works in two separate trades (they talk about one deal, but it has to be build in two separated deal)

It looks like Cleveland really wants Paul P. what about a three way S&T with Josh going to Beantown and Cleveland sending the ATL Anderson V. ?

That is a brilliant idea!

But It sounds like CLE is loading up for a playoff run. Varejao would be a key piece for them.

I'll give you Bradley,Bass & either Crawford or Melo for Josh Smith. Any takers?! You guys get a good starting center Bass is a good 3rd big in any rotation. Bradley will obviously lock up whoever the oppositions best guard is. As long as you have a pg so he doesn't havta run the team, you'll be golden.

what 9mil for the 2 of them? Could be worse.

Who is the good starting center? I hope it isn't Fab because he hasn't even proven he can be a good 4th big buried on the bench yet.

I would rather take that package and send it to a third team and the Hawks get a lotto pick
