Re: Official Speculation Thread (Pt. LVI - NBA Draft Edition
How's this for #2 pick comparisons
McLemore. = Beasley
Got the skill... Questionable motor
Oladipio = MKG
Intangibles & motor. No eye popping stats...
This draft depresses me. I wish Marcus Smart didn't return to school

I don't believe that MKG rumor, but I am a fan of his. I wouldn't give up Harkless, Tobias or Vucevic for him though and I don't think Rob would either.

I don't think it's Orlando as much as it would be Charlotte, Sacramento, or Detroit. I agree with Ford and Simmons that he would have to be placed in the right situation where he has the right role models, coaches, and veterans surrounding him; I actually that's generally true of most rookies. We would actually be that one place that would be perfect for McLemore. I always believed that's why Vaughn is coaching here. He's not here to just coach a team to wins, but also teach these young guys the way of the league. Unlike a lot of coaches, I think Vaughn has the patience to do that.
I think that's what he was trying to say

Why do this and give up assets? We already have Harkless who had a better 2nd half of the season than MKG and was better in head to head matchups.
I was surprised they drafted a guy that is mainly known for high motor at #2. Thats too high for that type of player. Thats why I am in favor of drafting McLemore at #2 instead of Oladipo and even Noel with those injury concerns. Mclemore has basketball skill.
I feel MKG is going to be a special player but I wouldn't sell the farm for him, I would offer something like the number 2, plus AA, and AN. I would take MKG over any prospect in this draft.

Yeah, that was what I was saying, Orlando is a great landing spot for him. Just disregarding if he's worth us picking, but as far as fit, great place.

There was just a post on Grantland about ideal landing places for 4 guys. One of them was Noel...landing spot...Phoenix for their training staff. Good idea.

Our rookies never had the same issues. We took high character guys. We will continue to do so. If I were you, I would jump off the BMac wagon. This isn't new news just because ESPN is now saying it. Many have been saying it here for a long time. It's time bro. Make the jump.

Awesome podcast between Chad Ford and Bill Simmons. They give a nice summary of all the draft analysis.
At around 20 minute mark, Ford defiantly says Magic will pick Noel if available. Also says there's a "good chance" we trade the pick if Noel is gone by #2.
Great link.
Ford on McLemore (@29:00) :
He can't really get to the rim, because he can't dribble. And a lot of the issues that he's faced at Kansas, that look like him being passive, were because defenses--...
Y'know, Tim Hardaway, Jr., I was talking to him because he had to guard both Ben McLemore and Oladipo -- had to gaurd Oladipo twice, Michigan played them twice, and they played against Kansas. And I asked him who he thought was the better player was between the two, he saw both up-close on the court -- Tim Hardaway, Jr. also has great basketball IQ, obviously, he knows what he's talking about. And he said Oladipo was so much tougher for him because you had to guard him everywhere on the floor. He was gonna sneak in and get an offensive rebound, he was gonna post up, he'll take the ball wherever he can go on the floor, and he moves great without the ball.
Ben, it was basically, what you had to do was make sure that you didn't give him room to shoot his jumpshot. Uh, and you didn't let him cut to the basket for an alley-oop. He's not going to beat you off the dribble.

I never said it was news. You have to realize that a couple of guys fuel rumors and articles that spread throughout the media. Ford is one of those guys. Things he says get twisted and reworded by half the beat writers in the nation and things start snowballing. No one ever said McLemore had low character, in fact, everyone says he's got great character. I am on record as having Noel as my #1 for months, I just don't think he's going to be there.

#2 pick, Nicholson, and one of our future 1sts for MKG and Gerrald Henderson? Still trade AA to Clips for Bledsoe and start Bledsoe at pg Hark at 2, MKG at 3, Harris at 4, Vuc at 5
Henderson 1st off the bench

I don't dislike McLemore, but it's that mentality that Simmons and Ford talk about that makes me prefer Oladipo so much more. I liked the Kawhi comparison for Oladipo, in terms of psyche.

The MKG rumors cannot possibly be true. Unless it comes out that he got into a fistfight with Jordan or something.

I don't see MKG as a fit for the Magic at all and I would rather have several players in this draft instead of him. The Bobcats waiving the white flag on him after one year is a bad sign, even with the ineptitude of that Charlotte front office.
