Doc goes to LA, so now what?

Looks like Doc Rivers is going to the Clippers, which means Chris Paul resigns in LA. Which also means that there is little to no chance that Dwight comes to Atlanta.

What do yall guys think would be the next best thing for us? There are still some decent FA on the market.

I think Monta would probably be a bad choice. I would rather have Kevin Martin . Honestly I'd rather have Tyreke Evans at the 2 than Monta.

I like Al Jefferson, but to put him at the 5 and move Al to the 4 does not really help our size. We really need to move Al to the 4 though.

I say if Josh walks, we should try to pick up iguodala. He does a little bit of everything just like Josh. As much as some of yall hate Josh, you have to admitm, he can do alot of things well (some things very well). We need someone else like that. Iquodala rebounds, scores, and plays good defense.

^I like Iggy as a hawk, but not sure if his production justifies a max salary.
Maybe a lower cost alternative like Corey Brewer.

Jefferson's skillset would fit well next to Horford, and his 290 lb frame could cause matchup issues, but his defense is atrocious.

Tyreke could be a nice piece at PG & SG.

I think a Josh sign-and-trade becomes very important to us now. Gasol or Asik keep us from enduring a full on rebuild. Pekovic becomes a likely free agent target, also.

Try to sell Dwight on teaming up with Horford and Smith.

With the best frontline in the NBA, Teague at point, Lou Williams (and, hopefully, Korver) at 2 and Jenkins heading up a really good bench (Scott and 2 1sts), we'd be a contender.

(Actually, try to sell him on teaming up with Horford and WHOMEVER).

If we're shooting for some form of a quality team then I wouldn't mind going after Martin and Iggy on the wing. I would probably make Steven Adams a huge priority at all costs.

If those 2 aren't available or ferry wants to go a different direction, then I like Evans. Could probably make a surprise move by trading up and take MCW at the point and in a separate deal, move up and take Adams. Gives us really young team with huge upside and size at every position.

I'd like to have Iggy, especially if we decide to not keep Josh. We really need shooters and a big man. The shooters need to be able to play some defense and big needs to grab boards and play defense.

I guess a big question is (and they were talking about this on 92.9 this afternoon) do you look at keeping Smith since we can't sign CP3 and DH? I say let him discover his value on the market and decide when he gets an offer if its worth topping it with our bird rights. He's a very talented player and may be worth bringing back for the right price. I personally would not mind bringing him back and put another couple pieces in place to make us better. My main hope is coach Bud can get better consistency from Josh and Teague.

I don't see why the Rivers trade makes it an automatic that Paul resigns with the Clippers. Their roster is still tremendously flawed and will never sniff a title or even a Finals appearance. Griffin and Jordan offer next to nothing on defense and neither can make a shot outside of 5 foot while they take up almost half of the teams salary cap.

If Paul wants to win, Atlanta is still his best option by far.

I agree with you. I have a little more faith that Teague will grow more consistent with time than Josh has. But it's difficult to believe that Josh will figure it out. You can hope, but you run the risk of hitching your wagon to a lame horse that won't get you there, just like Joe Johnson. The only way I like him back here is if we have more talent around and he doesn't feel like he has to be anything more than what he really is: athleticism and energy. He can not however be the first option and have the pressure of being the highest paid player on the team.

IF he doesnt like teh 4 year deals hes seeing, then the ONLY way I would resign him would be for far less money than the max.

Considering that isnt going to happen IMO, Josh Smith has played his last game as a Hawk.

Josh has claimed that the media misrepresented him about his claim to be a max contract player. Sounds like he is just highballing. I think he can easily come back to atlanta and resign.

Do we really want another 5 years of Josh as a Hawk? Would u be satisfied if the next 5 years were like the last 5 years? How long tll he curses out Coach Bud and gets suspended again? Think he sets a new career high in 3 pt attempts this year? Will the fans boo him for the rest of his career every time he launches (and misses) a long two?
The moodiness, the lack of effort, the behind the back passes in crunch time, the missed dunks when a layup will suffice...you really want that and the mediocrity it brings for another 5 years?

I look forward to watching the clips get dusted up early in the playoffs again next year. Still holding a small glimmer of hope that we are able to land Paul as we give him a better chance at winning.
