Draft Trade Idea w/ORL

Post#1 » by Piston Pete » Wed Jun 26, 2013 7:53 pm

Knight/Monroe/Stuckey

for

#2/Harris/Afflalo

Rumor has it ORL is looking to trade down from #2. Knight/Monroe is better than anything else they'd have available at #2 and also fills their major holes.

US:
#2 pick = Bennett
#8 pick = Burke

We become:
Burke
Afflalo / English
Harris / Singler / Middleton
Bennett / Jerebko
Drummond

Monroe by himself could probably get you the #2 and Harris.

So, no thank you.

We could do that then:

Bennett #2
McLemore #8

Knight
McLemore
Harris
Bennett
Drummond

Getting Bennett with the #2 seems a bit of a reach IMO. I like the idea, though.

There is no way Mac is falling to 8.

There is no way in hell i'd take Bennett. I'd take Noel who I believe will be available at 2 over Bennett. I like the idea but I think they would offer us Nelson instead of Affalo.

Heck no! I would rather just stick where we are at unless McLemore is still available at 5 and see if PHX would be willing to make a trade.

i love around draft time when fans get super hyped about players who haven't played a second in the NBA.
Monroe has proved to be a real player with All Star potential and we're trading him so we can grab the next derrick williams, beasley, oden, darko etc...

The Orlando Magic have one of the league's highest payroll at 74 mil as well as a lottery team for a couple more seasons. Since we are a team with cap space, we have to take advantage of that. Personally, I would trade Monroe, whose not yet an all-star but rumored that he wants a max deal after his rookie contract (in that case, a very undeserving contract), for Tobias Harris, Jameer Nelson and their 1st round pick this year. This will shed 10 mil out of their payroll and with Hedo Turkoglu's contract expiring in the next offseason, they will be able to get out of their payroll problems, resign Monroe and have a high draft pick.

With their pick, draft Ben McLemore
With our pick, draft best player avaible. I prefer Zeller

*Buyout Stuckey and amnesty CV (we will have appro. 24 mil to play with)

Sign Tyreke Evans to a 4 yr, 30 mil deal (about 8 mil/season)
Sign Paul Milsap for about 10 mil a yr
Resign Will Bynum for 3 mil

Neslon/Evans
McLemore/Bynum (he's more a scoring guard off the bench)
Harris/Middleton/Singler
Milsap/Jerebko
Drummond/Zeller/Kravtsov

That figure includes Gilbert Arenas, who has been amnestied. They're currently a bit below the cap and way under the luxury tax at $52-4m. There's no incentive for them to give up assets to save money.

Out of all the Milsap signing crap this is the first one that i don't want to rip my hair out on. I don't like Evans since we would still have Knight.

I looked the league's highest payrolls this season and saw Orlando at number six, but I didn't realize the Gilbert Arenas' deal doesn't count against their cap space lol

In that case I would trade Monroe for Harris and their 1st. Harris is an up and coming star in this league who can fine offensive/defensive game and McLemore would solve our two guard dilemma. Knight would be developed by Cheeks and we should be able to contend for a playoff spot next season

This might not be a bad trade down the line but it would make us pretty bad next year. Monroe is the only player we have who's consistently better than his opponent, and the only guy who can score/create with above average efficiency. Harris was less efficient than Monroe and there are two concerns about the numbers he put up in ORL: a) they are a small sample size and they were better minute per minute than what he did in Milwaukee, which suggest that they're a little better than what we should expect him to put up. 2) they came in that end-of-year time when teams are tanking or experimenting with new lineups.I'm not saying Harris doesn't have great potential but I don't think you should see the 18/8 he put up the last month of the season as a sure thing to carry over into next year.

McLemore, meanwhile, will be a young rookie, and young rookies at rarely capable of starting, let alone being good starters. Mac isn't known as a particularly mature young player as well. (See Chad Ford's reports on that).

I don't dislike the overall idea, though, high risk/ high reward move. I'd probably vote against it if I had to decide but it's intriguing.
