Actually, a second thought on the deal I commented below - I probably wouldn't keep the #19 pick. I'd try to find somebody who would buy it for $3M - and then apply that $3M with our $1.6M to try to buy Dallas' #13 pick. Technically it would be a 3-way deal in which Dallas got $1.6M from us and $3M from "team 3", we'd move up from #19 to #13, and "team 3" would end up with the #19 pick.
But that's getting ahead of myself......

I'd be fine with that scenario. Turning Lee into Tristan Tompson and Gorgui Deng? Dream scenario.

I'd give Lee for practically anything the Cavs have.
Sooo much this.

Isn't the best we can hope for to be at least as good as we were last season?
We won't be that if we trade Lee for Tristan Thompson.

Are we going to be as good as last year, without Jack? My premise is that Thompson + Jack + #19 is great than Lee + scrub back-up PG + nada. I'm not comparing to last year, I'm making an assumption (potentially to be proven wrong) that we won't actually bring Jack back because of the money. If the management team is willing to bring him back, then I agree with you.
If I don't have anything funny to say, can I still have a signature?

If that is the case, then I would probably agree with you. They have it in their power to sign Jack, it's just a matter of spending money. Good teams tend to do that, though. :/

I'd probably like #1 and waiters for lee. Sign bWright as a back up or maybe even elton brand and if we still buy a 2nd and pick goodwin i'd take TT instead of waiters.

So it's likely that the next stop is Lee. I'm thinking that Lee's value might be slightly less with the surgury.
From a Cap room consideration...if the Warriors were trying to move salary in order to sign Dwight Howard, for example, then you would make that kind of move. Or maybe you clear salary to re-sign Landry and Jack so it makes sense.....
This all could get interesting....
The Lee injury IMO will not lower his value. His injury is outside the normal basketball wear and tear type, such as ankles and knees. There might be something genetic that is underlying, but I don't think anyone is expecting his physical decline because of it.

Re: Trade Thread (REVENGE OF THE NERDS II: NERDS IN PARADISE
I think it is a good time to move Lee, but at the same time, I don't want to give him away. A lot of you think that the Warriors are a better team without Lee and even wanted to amnesty him at one time.
My problem with Lee, besides his defense, is the length of his contract. I don't think he is overpaid per season.
I don't think Love or LMA make us that much better of a team. If I had to choose between the two, I would take LMA. I think if you bring Love in, it becomes Love's team and IMO this is Stephen Curry's team.
I think Curry's initial feelings on trading Lee would be negative. I am not a huge fan of allowing players to dictate personnel moves, coaching hires etc., but I do think that Curry needs to be brought in to bounce things off of. This is a really tricky area. I think a lot of the success this team had last year was a result of chemistry and guys playing together as a team. I think this needs to be the number one factor in making a trade...what does this do to the team's chemistry?
Iggy and Curry are friends. I think there could be something worked out with Denver, but I don't think it is in the Warriors best interest cap wise. Iggy is looking for a long term deal and the Warriors have a cheap SF for the next 3 seasons. I don't make a S&T with Denver if I know Barnes is my long term solution at that position.

Lee is definitely overpaid. With a barely healthy Bogut, he was completely expendable in the playoffs against two quality opponents. Let's not look at his typical stats but rather his impact on the offense as a whole. His offensive impact is decent, but our team thrives from extra spacing from the PF position. We need more of it.

Disagree with the expendable thing against the Spurs, who we lost to the last time I checked.
I will agree that the extra spacing helps us out a lot, but tell me who we can upgrade the PF spot with, without losing one of our rotation players along with Lee?

We almost took them down if not for a game 1 meltdown and both Curry and Bogut getting hurt. If draymond plays like he did in the playoffs, I'm comfortable with him at the 4 along with Landry for this year. The whole reason Lee needs to go is bc his salary limits our ability to resign Bogut and get a max contract on top of that. If we don't get rid of Lee, we have to renounce Bogut and if we get a max contract, we'll have around 5 mil to fill 7-8 roster spots. Those roster spots would all have to be for the vet min.

It's really myopic to make these kinds of assessments based on a handful of games. Sometimes opponents can be caught off-guard when they face unexpected lineups. Denver couldn't adjust. San Antonio eventually did. Having a weapon like Lee is always better than not having one.

The Warriors get more spacing with David Lee. With Lee on the floor the Warriors are getting more 3 pointers and points in the paint. Without Lee they are taking more ineffective mid range jumpers.
Why? Because Lee is a threat at the top of the key and he scores inside. Unlike Green and Landry he's consistently effective in the P&R. Teams respect his offensive game and it opens everything up. That's why Curry's 3p% jumps from 40% to 45% when Lee is on the floor.
Also, Denver didn't have Danillo Galinari. He's their leading scorer against the Warriors and the only guy who could spread the floor. It's hard for teams to overcome losing their biggest/most important offensive threat.
The Warriors desperately needed Lee in the San Antonio series. If he's healthy they win that series.

This has to be false. All through out the denver series and from the last i checked through most of the spurs series, the reason our offense exploded was because we were taking more 3s not less. Lee is our best paint scorer for what that's worth.

Rumored trade of Love for Lee and Barnes that Steimetz has heard...awful trade for the Warriors.

This is true. Curry shoots 46.1% from behind the arc with Lee. Without Lee he shoots 40.2%.
These are the teams FGA with and without Lee.
Code: Select all
With Lee Without Lee
Inside 30.3% 23.9%
Mid 45.2% 52.4%
3 Pt 24.5% 23.7%
Mid range jumpers are the most ineffective shots in basketball.

I would do it in a heart beat. A healthy Love is better than Curry IMO.
