2013 Pistons Draft Day Thread!

Post#1 » by ComboGuardCity » Thu Jun 27, 2013 5:14 am

Well folks its officially the day you have all been waiting for!

Its considered a weak draft and there are many story lines.

1. Will the trend continue and have a superior prospect fall into our laps?

2. Will the Shamu Era live on or will the hopes and dreams of a few be harpooned?

3. Will MCW be our pick and will POP finally walk triumphant out of a draft?

4. Will Trey Burke be the messiah to all Michigan and Pistons faithful?

5. Will PP finally be able to see Joe pull off something he's wanted him to do any every draft: Make a Trade?

Stay tuned and discuss folks!

Official Prediction: We draft Cody Zeller, he shows a ton of promise his rookie year and we decide to trade Greg Monroe to the Spurs for Danny Green. Monroe becomes a perennial all-star, Green loses his left arm and Zeller never tops 10 & 6.

Did Realgm go down last year on draft day?

They've struggled with the volume of people trying to log on in the past.

Personally, I'd love to see us make a trade if a superior talent doesn't drop to us. I feel like it's been so long since we made a trade that wasn't a cost cutting move like the Tay and BG trades were.

The only thing I can predict now is this will be a 25 + page thread by the end of the day.

Raps don't have their pick I think it will be OK.

This draft should be exciting...Just like last year, if anyone here lives near the Houston area your welcome to come to the draft party...Plenty of pretty women, plenty of food, plenty of everything else!.. BMP I wish you could come so we could start our competition...

I'm 60% on the side that we'll pick McCullum, 40% on the side of Muhammad...I would love it if McLemore falls to the Pistons...Lets get it...

I really want Kentavious Caldwell-Pope.
Exactly what we need. Obviously would prefer mclemore, but thats unlikely.
i really dont think another point guard is the answer. let knight play the point and have a shooter for him to pass to when he breaks down the defense. we can get a solid backup in the second round, brandon is not a 2.
also, please god dont draft bennett who is the most likely to fall out of that top 6. has bust written all over him (along with noel and len)

 I agree he's the best that we're going to get at our spot. I prefer him over Burke.

I've gone on record saying I wouldn't have any reservations about picking a point guard if one is the best available, as I simply don't view Knight as a long term solution as anything but a nice 6th man.

We have other needs easily equal to that one though. Our wing play is woeful. Nice thing about having a lot of wholes is you have a lot of options in the draft, I suppose.

can someone fill me in on why we think it would be a great idea at this point to draft another point guard? knight is clearly not a sg,

carter williams is meant to be a passing type pg, since he cant score. but he is the most turnover prone of any of the available pgs. his size counters the disadvantage of knight, but hes not as tall as KCP, and if hes basically going to play the 2 on defense, and not be an effective player on offense, surely he doesnt make more sense than a proper wing.

burke and mccollum i see as very similar players. both who are going to be nothing more than a backup pg if the team is not a cellar dweller like orlando and charlotte. they can score, but neither appears to be a solid defender. especially if knight has to then play against 2's. i really dont think either can play significant minutes WITH knight. it would have to be the one we pick or knight starting and the other being a sixth man.

as i was typing that i did kind of convince myself that burke or mccollum could work, but only if dumars knows he can get BOTH wing position filled in FA. i definitely dont want singler starting this season. however i still think KCP is the best option for us at 8 (assuming that top tier of 6 are all gone, although if bennett dropped i still wouldnt take him over KCP)

Detroit is not taking a guard if you read between the lines.

You start looking at it and you rate these wing guys,” Dumars said. “If it gets to the point where they’re all gone, the ones you rated in the top seven or eight then you have to take the best big guy or the best player on the board at that point. We’ve been very open, our preference is to look at the perimeter with this particular pick. But by no means are we locked into that where that’s all we are going to take no matter what. If those guys that we rate in the top seven or eight are gone off the board, you can be rest assured that we’re going to take the best big that is left.”

the next best big is Zellar or Kelly Olynyk, Gonzaga C 7-0 240 do you this is dumars smoke screen .

CJ McCollum will be our pick. That's my prediction.

At this point I think Joe is just blowing smoke.

He has no idea what is happening above or below him and the general feeling is we're taking a perimeter player.

So it's no surprise Joe comes out and says "Hang on just a second. I'm not guaranteed to take a perimeter player! I could take a big! Don't assume that your big guy will be there at 9 or 10... cause I might just beat you to it!"

agreed Dumars target has to be: McCollum is first and foremost a natural scorer. His 25.8 points per-40 ranked him 6th amongst NCAA prospects,

Dumars is trying to get a team to go for a big before they draft so McCollum slides down to them.

Anyone think we might move this pick for someone like Eric Gordon tonight?

I'd be interested in that depending on how the board falls.

Noooooo. Given Gordon's contact and injury history, the asking price for him should be a couple of 2nd rounders.

I'm worried.....seems as though we worked out very few guys we could take at #8 - or other wings we might have liked in case of a trade down

We didn't work out:

Bennett
KCP
Crabbe
Franklin
Rice Jr.
Hardway
Goodwin

5 of those guys are late firsts or 2nd rounders.... so I imagine we're not trading down from #8 or trading our 2nds to move into the late first and get one of them
