Bledsoe at the shooting guard?

Post#1 » by stanley14 » Tue Jun 25, 2013 12:57 am

I personally love Eric Bledsoe and really don't want to see him go, if we want to keep him is playing him at shooting guard on option?

I have always liked the clippers offence when both cp3 and beldsoe were on the court. bledsoe is a poor man's bad shooting dwayne wade type. Ebled and cP3 can both drive to the basket and kick it out giving us a multidimensional attack. However I would trade bledsoe in a package for a scoring SF any day of the week.

We'd need a damn good spot up SF shooter and keep good shooters off the bench, spread 4 would help a lot.

if we are gonna have CP3 and Bled start at both guard positions, we need a lights out shooter at 3 and a decent stretch 4 to space out the floor. neither of CP and bled can really strike a fear into defenders' hearts from the perimeter. i like having 2 guards who can drive in and create, but we will need someone like korver to keep the defense honest from simply collapsing in.
ehhhhh f it.

No. Too short and not a good jumpshooter.

He can definitely fill some minutes at the 2 coming off the bench, but any more is stretching it.

Too short can be argued. Not a good enough shooter is meh, I guess the naming of the position as made the expectation that a SG must be a shooter, but he's fine if you have a SF and PG that can shoot. Paul isn't big on quick catch and shoot, but Caron is actually not a bad shooter. Definitely not impossible because of his shooting, height is more of an issue, but if you compare him to these SG's who have started or are starting and take into account length, strength and and athletic ability, it's not much of an issue:
Avery Bradley
Eric Gordon
O.J. Mayo
Ben Gordon
Randy Foye
Willie Green
Delonte West
Monta Ellis
Jodie Meeks
J.J. Redick
Charlie Bell

Now of course, outside of Avery Bradley, almost all are good shooters, well, Monta is up and down.

A better question would be, how much do you think Bledsoe would fetch in FA contract wise?

I have no clue, I would give him 4 years / $26M, but you know, that's only $6.5M a year, so someone would probably beat that.

If DJ got 4 years 40 mil.... i can't see EB getting less than 8-10mil himself.... he'll get at least $32mil, he's a very coveted PG with lots of room to grow and can lock down any pg in the game right now.

I think he will get a George Hill level contract, wasn't that high 30- l ow 40 mil?

He'll definitely get something close to it, but i think the one thing that EB needs to prove before he gets a 40mil contract is being able to shoot, hill was able to hit those 3s. His Defense, athleticism, recent improvement as a passer, and potential gives him about 32-36mil. If he's not dealt at draft night, he'll have a lot of time to prove his worth come trade deadline.

It's called shooting guard and Bledsoe can't shoot.

So there ya go.

Also, you need a guy that defends wing players(sg + sf) and hit open jumpers without needing the ball in his hands, thanks to CP3 doing all the ballhandling.

Can't compare C's to other players unless it is a superstar when it do we to contracts. I don't know if there is an underpaid C in the league outside of rookie contract guys.

Very risky move. Eric is a good defender but his jumper is mad suspect.

Yeah, I agree it's not a pre-requisite of the position- I think it's more important that SG's be good scorers generally rather than specifically being good jump shooters (although even then that will depend- sometimes a lock down defender is what you need if you already have scoring at other positions.) My personal assessment is more that I don't think he's the right starting SG for us. He can definitely fill minutes at both guard positions. But given his contract status and our cap, I would rather look to move him for a more natural fit. I would say right now Bledsoe's stock is at an all-time high, so a good deal should be out there.

OTOH, if the right deal is not there, then we'll roll with who we have.

We often have problems generating good shots, which is why I don't think Bledsoe is the solution here. Hopefully a new coaching staff will help here, but I think we need a younger scorer who can reliably score 15-16 PPG for us. Caron is not a bad shooter but age is catching up with him.
